A couple of years later, Papa, Joseph Francis Ostertag, decided to get back into the dating scene. Eventually, Papa met Charlotte White, my soon to be Mema. After dating for awhile, Papa finally decided it was time to introduce the family to Charlotte. Despite being weary at first, I quickly learned to love the generous, quirky, and thoughtful lady that I now call Mema.

When we first started having Thanksgiving together after the marriage, she would make both a ham and a turkey for a meal of only 14 people. Although our family would normally eat the leftovers, If we have an excessive amount, she will bring in leftovers to her work. She is head of the blood analysis lab at their hospital. She is very grateful of her staff, although they aren’t always the hardest of workers. Although she doesn’t always cook as much food, we always leave the house with happy hearts and full stomachs.

Charlotte also refuses to wear a bra some days. It’s very noticeable, but you get used to it. But all of her little quirks are what make me love her. Her generosity and inclusiveness make it hard not to. Although I miss my Mimi, there is no one else that I would rather have as a
