Ever since I could remember, I always had an interest and fascination in medicine and how science could affect the lives around us every day. My maternal grandfather was a well-known doctor in his home country, Albania. He served his community for over twenty years until his sudden death at just the age of forty-eight. In 2011, my mother decided to honor his hard work and dedication to his community by naming the clinic he worked in after him. At this ceremony, I had the opportunity to meet the people who worked alongside my beloved grandfather whom I did not have a chance to meet. I had already become familiar with the dedication and tasks necessary to become a doctor and I was not interested in that type of lifestyle so physician’s assistant was the next best thing for me. A physician assistants job is designed to become familiar with the patient and their medical history. They ask questions, perform medical examinations, and prepare the patients for any further processes regarding their health. A physician assistant works alongside doctors and helps them perform their job whenever they need any extra help. One disadvantage would have to be the fact that I connect with people on a very emotional level causing me to overthink decisions and actions. The fact that my job is designed for me to be in contact with patients makes the matter even more difficult for me because this will lead me to become attached to others not by choice but by my career expectations. One other disadvantage would have to be the fact that I would have to dedicate my time and hard-work towards this career choice. PA programs are designed to be very competitive and to work in fast paced environments so not everyone can become a physician assistant. On top of the hard work, you would need to be at the top of your classes and receive a high score on your GRE for you to come off as a more qualified applicant than others to the schools you are applying
