Unfortunately, my mother became our sole provider. She wore many hats such as; mother/father/student and employee. Four years later my sister was conceived, afterward, my mother started working two jobs to try and make ends meet. She could not afford childcare, and I began to miss days from high school to care for my sister so that my mother could work. I love, love, loved school and learning, but the absences put me too far behind to catch up in school work, so I dropped out. Several years later I went back to retrieve my GED.
Marriage vs Being Single As for me, I consider myself to be a family oriented person, I was that person that wanted the beautiful home with the white picket fence, a husband, a son and a daughter. In that order. Unfortunately,

My first son was born from this marriage. I had known his father for 4 years prior to getting married. He insisted that I not go to work. After our son was a little over a year, my husband became temperamental and physically abusive. Soon after I learned that he had been involved in experimenting with crack cocaine. Eventually, I grew tired of the abuse and took the baby and left … never to return. I basically stayed in hiding, because he had threatened to kill me and beat my face in, if and when he saw me again. He eventually caught up with me and battered me again. Several years later, I began the divorce proceedings and followed through with it. We are still cordial today.
MATS
I wanted to do better for myself, so went back to school for 9 months, graduated and received a “Certificate of Nurses Aid,” at MATS (Medical Aid Training School) in Chicago. Didn't like that much due to fact that I got placed in a nursing home cleaning poop regularly and returning home to clean baby poop too. Between work and home, I was pooped out.

He wanted to recruit my son into a gang. The guy and I exchanged a few words, long story short, he informed me that he would catch up with him when he's outside alone. Little did he know I was more than willing to risk my life on behalf of my son. I knew what time it was, and I refused to stand by and let it happen, so I packed up, had all of my school documents, in addition to there's and transferred from Chicago's, DeVry to Atlanta's DeVry where my boys and I could feel safe.
