My Life Lessons Learned

Like learning to play a new sport without a coach, going through life without someone to help is just as tough. Just as any sports team needs a coach, every person should have a coach in life. Some may call this person their mother, father, or mentor, but a person’s life coach is simply someone who may have made some bad decisions themselves and wants to help others avoid doing the same. Life lessons are only useful sets of advice given from one person to help another. Advice given as life lessons could be as simple or complicated as sharing the importance of carrying a good attitude, embracing your uniqueness, and being a leader. These are also valuable lessons I have learned myself.

At a young age, I learned that one’s attitude towards others could open or close many doors. Although, I knew having a good attitude could take you very far in life, this became more apparent to me at the age of 14. It took me a while to realize that the person I was trying to be was not the real me. I believe that I came to this realization in the eighth grade. At this point, I informed those who I thought were my friends of my plans to attend Stanly Early College. At first, all those I thought were my true friends seemed to be excited for my plans until I told them I had been accepted. From that moment and through my entire freshman year I lost touch with many people who I discovered to have not really have been my true friends. For a short period of time, I felt alone until I discovered that those who I kept in touch with along with the new friends I made were my true friends.
