My literacy journey has been one that I am grateful for thus far. Throughout the years, my family and my teachers have been at the core of my literacy. The various teachers and professors who have taught me have really played a big role in ensuring that I have become as literate as they could possibly prepare me. My parents and siblings have always been a big part of this journey, especially in reading. They have supported me by encouraging me to read as many books as possible. My competitive nature prodded me into enrolling in these competitions. In hindsight, these competitions have carved me into the literate being I am now. In the end, I passed my exams and I hope to pass this one too.
Writing essays when I was younger flourished my passion for writing. The thrill of capturing the attention of the audience with my words and conveying my imagination to reality always left me feeling like the Michelangelo of literacy. The essay writing competitions I participated in also boosted my confidence in unearthing the talent and skill within me. The pen is truly mightier than the sword, for my journey is proof that capturing the activities of the human mind using words is not a mean feat. Writing has given me that opportunity to do

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

As time ticks by, my hands rush to scribble down letters to form the first essay of the first semester, then the second, and finally the last. Throughout the first semester, students in Honors English experienced writing essays in a short amount of time while trying to maintain the essay’s quality. I believe that although I did well in some parts of my Summer Reading Essay, The Odyssey Essay, and Character showing Empathy Essay, there were pieces of the essays that could be improved and in the future, I aim to achieve the goals I have set up to enhance my work.…

When I first entered high school, I thought that essays were used to summarize, argue, or explain. It seemed an unwelcome task to complete a futile essay. However, when I began writing in my first high school english class - freshman composition- I learned that an essay is meant to be an opportunity to explore and test novel ideas. The term essay comes from the Middle French word essai, which means a trial or attempt. As I continued taking writing classes throughout my high school experience, I understood that an essay is just that — a window for writers to attempt new techniques while also exploring fresh ideas about literature, policy, and the sorts.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
