1) Briefly describe the plot of the film. 1 paragraph min.
This story starts out with Joel, a monotonous man, who makes a spur of the moment decision to get on a train to Montauk. There he meets Clementine, a manic pixie dream girl, who seems to take perverse pleasure in being flamboyant and insulting him. The two are automatically drawn to one another through a feeling of déjà vu. Ultimately, they spend the evening together and have a ‘midnight picnic’ on a frozen and cracked lake. It later turns out that, Joel and Clementine were in previously in love. Through Joel’s flashbacks while undergoing a memory erasing “procedure”, viewers learn the history of their relationship. Clem had decided to get her memory erased of Joel and, in a masochistic form of retaliation, he does the same.
The memories are sot in a backwards sequence, initially showing where the relationship fell apart. Slowly, Joel starts to remember why he loved Clem. However, he cannot stop the procedure because he is asleep. He wants to keep the happy memories of …show more content…
These ranged from large scale ones, such as breaking and entering (Clem and Joel), and having affairs (Mary and Howard), to small ones such as stealing personal items (Patrick), to being in a relationship with one personal while in love with another (Mary and Stan). However, the ethical issues that were the two biggest, was Joel’s childhood killing and desecration of a bird, and Patrick’s seduction of Clem using Joel’s gifts and knowledge of her (through letters and a drawing). When Joel killed the bird, he was responding to peer pressure. However, I don’t believe that anything could substantiate the killing and smashing of an animal with a hammer. Killing is unjustified unless it’s for survival’s sake. In the case of a person, this would mean you’re being attacked and act in self-defense. In the case of an animal, this would mean you need to hunt to eat or you’ll
