A story my Mom and grandma always tell me how I got my grandpa to open up and play with the grand kids. Back when I was the only grandchild I would go to my grandparents house every Friday night. That moment didn’t affect me or really mean anything to me when I was that small but now because of that moment we are pretty close, as I grew up we just became closer even now we joke around with each other all the time. He used to worry that my mom and her sister wouldn’t think of him as their dad or that the grandkids wouldn’t think of him as grandpa but he has always been there for all of us and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I was around eight years old when I lost something that I knew even then I would never be able to replace, I lost my grandma. Even though there were other deaths in my family before her, her death hit me harder than anything. It was at that point that I realized when people die, they don 't just go away for a little, they are gone. I remember always walking over there when I was bored and just spending time with her, she would read to me or we would be constantly watching the Neverending Story. My dad and his friends would terrorize the people out trick or treating when we lived in Cahokia. Now there isn 't a lot of terrorizing as there is crazy scenes in our yard now, like monsters coming out of the ground with their head being pulled off, spinning zombies and coffins. As Halloween draws close every year we get excited and start talking about our plans for how we want to decorate and what we are going to do for costumes. Its a lot of hard work but its worth it in the end. My dad is the mastermind behind it all, when he gets an idea he come to me and has me draw it out for him and from there we try to make it work on wood or make it out of foam. For instance we got a chance to do a haunted house for the church across the street from our house. It was tons of fun, we worked on it everyday for almost three months. We built it in a shed the church has, there was enough room to make a small haunted trail sort of thing so we went with that then section off different spots for everything. I drew out everything and painted everything while my dad worked on cutting things out of wood and putting things together. Even though we had hardly any extra help we still got it done. In the end it ended up being one of

Grief has been both my downfall and my saving grace. No one knows how to grieve properly or correctly, but the one thing I learned from grieving at a very young age, is that grief is love; specifically, unconditional love. This unconditional love towards someone (or in my case, many people) pours out as a sign of loneliness and yearning just to hold them and hug them one final time. I understand that losing people is a part of life and can’t be avoided, but growing up, I thought my world had turned upside down when I lost the two most important people to me. Three weeks prior to my tenth birthday, my Nana passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease.…

A death of someone is never easy to handle, especially when it’s someone you truly care about. Growing up, the subject of death was never really concealed from me. My parents were very upfront about it and taught me that it is part of life. I have experienced multiple deaths throughout my years, both of family and nonfamily members, but only 4 of them really impacted me and taught me lessons. I wouldn’t say that these experiences of death has made me numb to it, but has shaped the way that I handle and look at death.…

I knew her health was not the best; however, the diagnosed health problems were not what killed her.…
