My Life In Houston

Improved Essays
Hi Ms. Watson, I was born in Houston, TX in 2002. Before 2nd grade, I lived in a house in Memorial Park behind my cousin’s house. My best memory about that house was the gate that separated my house from my cousin’s house, which allowed me to visit them frequently. I moved to the Spring Branch area around second grade for better schools. I moved to Park City, UT during my sixth grade year for a family adventure to experience living in the mountains, but moved back to Houston in my 7th grade year. A couple of achievements that I’m proud of from seventh grade are winning the lacrosse city championship, earning the all A’s award, and winning the district championship in cross country I have one brother who’s a senior in high school at MHS and one sister who’s in 6th grade at MMS. My mom grew up in Houston, and my dad grew up in New Braunfels. They both met at the University of Texas in Austin. I am half Taiwanese because my mom’s parents were born in Taiwan. …show more content…

It felt sort of like in the book when Jeannette says, “We moved around like nomads” (Walls 19). I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and my family moved to Zanesville, Ohio when I was about nine months old. That move was hardly a tragic experience for me seeing as I don’t remember it, so I don’t think it really counts. I lived in Zanesville until I was almost nine years old. This was the only place I had ever known, and when my parents said that we were moving, I was in complete disbelief.…

The Federalists who held power in Mexico left me, my fellow armadillos, and the Anglo Americans alone to enjoy and work the land. However, in 1829, the Centralists gained control of the Mexican government and the freedom we enjoyed gradually eroded. As the Mexican government imposed more regulations on the Anglo Americans, the tension which had existed between the two groups due to the Nacogdoches land grant, become even more palpable.…

Brownsville, Texas is the town that I was raised in and can still call home. It was rich with Mexican culture and delectable, greasy tacos but it was still an economically disadvantaged city meaning that there were never enough resources to guide students to better opportunities. Of course, I never knew I was deprived of such an apparent luxury until I came to The University of Texas at Austin. When this realization came, I became frantic because of how behind I felt. I began looking for all sorts of resources and opportunities the university had to offer.…

Coming to Houston from a country where opportunities are very limited and economy is a challenge for the youthful, has made the last two years a little rough and hopeful at the same time for me and my family. Therefore, school is the most important in my life, after my family; I dedicate my time and my efforts to not become just the first professional in my family, but also to be an exemplary person in society thanks to the values that my parents have instilled in me. Before coming to Houston, I studied three years of Industrial Design in Colombia; although I loved my career, I think that I was too young (15 years old) to appreciate what school was providing me and to be sure what I wanted to do in life. Once I got here I understood that what…

When I was 16 I moved to from California to Texas. During this time, I assume everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat, boots, talks in a southern accent such as saying y’all and other such stereotypes.
