Personal Experiences In Cultural Psychology: Self-Study

Too much of my life has been spent sitting on chairs and absorbing lectures – that much I learned when I stepped into the office of LLOYD&CO, an advertising company in the center of NYC, last winter break. Within a few days I have observed meetings, rotated between various departments, and participated in pitching for ideas and organizing the server – finally applying what I have learned in school and making up the rest by asking questions, observing, and engaging myself. I love learning, but to actually be able to put that knowledge into practical usage, encountering and overcoming so many unimaginable scenarios, really provides a different type of challenge that is exciting. When you sit in class everything is set in stone for you – information from books and people compiled over thousands of years; but when you step into an office everything can changing at any moment, pushing you to come up with solutions …show more content…
Courses on Psychological Measurement, Research Methods, and Statistics allowed me to gain skills on collecting and analyzing data. Education in Cultural Psychology and my own cross-culture experience lead to my high understanding in cultural-awareness, an increasingly important trend in international countries like Japan. In fact, I am currently working independently with a professor on research in the area of intercultural competence – both evidence for my experience in research and interest in taking a global perspective. Other writing classes, school publication experience, and my own interest in both writing and art provide constant practice for making creative work on my own. My contribution to various activity planning groups makes me very familiar with social media as well as the different ways of advertising events to audience groups as big as entire communities outside of
