“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” is a philosophy many strive to follow. This quote from Confucius is something we always heard growing up, especially in high school. In high school is when everyone says that you need to decide what your life goals and aspirations should be. If you asked what I wanted to be my freshman year of high school I said a pediatric nurse, my sophomore year I said an accountant, my junior year I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and then my senior year I decided that all I really wanted to be able to do was help people. I had no idea what I could do, but then I learned about social work. The beautiful thing about social work is there are many different things that I can do. I can work in a school, a hospital, or an office which covers my last three jobs I thought I wanted, but now I know that my true calling is social work. From the time I was very little I knew I wanted to help people. I grew up in Great Bend Kansas. My mother had me when she was eighteen and my brother when she was sixteen. We were only fourteen months apart. My mother, from the very beginning has been a huge inspiration for me. She is one of the major reasons why I decided I wanted to be in a helping profession. She went against all of the statistics of what they say happens to teen moms. She had double the duties and she faced them all the best way that she knew how.
