The manual skills that people of the nursing profession possess, including intravenous catheter insertion, Foley insertion, dressing changes, etc. can be taught to anyone who is willing to

I clearly remember the day I found my father lying on the sidewalk as he suffered from a stroke. I was barely a teenager when my father became ill. My family spent countless hours in the hospital, nursing home, and various doctors ' offices trying to learn what had happened to this man who was our pillar of strength. I recall how the nurses became his greatest advocate and always voiced their concern for him. In those moments I realized I had found my calling in the field of nursing.…

Preparing for this exam was unlike any other exam for me. I have recently accepted a job at Easter Maine Medical Center, as a nursing tech, and the hours of orientation have been challenging to balance with my studies. My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

Knowing how to respond to someone who was going through difficult medical treatments, like chemotherapy, or who had lost someone was difficult. Yet the longer I worked in the hospital the more I started to get the sense that tip toeing around patients and families was unnecessary. It just added to the load of their already emotional journey. This was a good lesson to learn early on because illness, death, and dying is a reality of life that I will most likely come into contact with as a counselor. Moreover, working in a hospital was beneficial because I saw how medical professionals interacted with each other and their clients.…

On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon after school, I was able to take a peek into my future. I have always been excited to become a nurse since I decided that this will be my major, and on that Wednesday I was able to experience this first hand. At my mother’s work, Behavioral Healthcare Partners, I was lucky enough to be sent to work in their medical office. Not only did I have an unbelieveable mixture of nerves and excitement during this experience, but I also learned a lot my first, second, and third day here working in the medical department. In my head, I need multiple things to be thinking about and doing in order to succeed. This has made it difficult to find things to bring my stress level down, because I feel like I can never completely relax and let go of responsibilities.…
