Mr. Mendez stated that a year prior his father Carlos Mendez passed away from lung cancer leaving numerous debts these debts along with the care of the family fell on the shoulders of his mother Maria Mendez and Carlos Jr. who was the oldest of six children as such his mother Maria made the difficult but necessary decision to migrate to the US leaving her five younger children in Belize with her sister Arora. Both Maria and Carlos Jr. Mendez received a HB1 visa at the American Embassy in Belize located at 4 Floral Park Road Belmopan Belize. And as previously mentioned on July 8, 2013 the pair arrived at the JFK airport both were given a stamp in there passport for a six month stay in the US after which they were picked up by a friend of Mrs. Mendez Cecelia Harris with whom they would be residing until they were able to establish themselves here in the US. According to Carlos at first all was well his mother was able to obtain a cleaning job through an employment agency and Carlos was able to acquire a job at a supermarket bagging groceries.
