Dereck Fallon is the type of boy who is only focused on anything that isn’t learning and when he is given a summer reading list he is outraged. His mother and father are sick and tired of cleaning up after his fun that they decide upon sending him to learning camp for the holidays. When he finds out he is outraged he will not be able to hang out with matt, his best friend from down the road, and even more angry when he finds out the teacher’s pet from school will also be attending. This building never contained one life changing event for me, but it has been a pivotal place in my life. A place I’ve referred to as home many times, the YMCA has shaped who I am as a man. This pivotal spot is where I suffered my first traumatic injury, changing how I do things for the rest of my life; but also was the place I went to when coping with family incidents. This institution, in particular the basketball gym, helped me find myself, changing my life forever.…

Confident was the key emotion I felt upon submission of my personal narrative essay, The Lone Book. Though I felt extremely vulnerable for another individual--a stranger at that--to read something that I hold so dear to my heart, I was still rather confident in my piece and hopeful for a 100%. I felt the strength of this paper was specific to the topic I chose to write, a bit risky but, something unique; not a typical cookie-cutter approach. Additionally, I considered my choice of strong vocabulary words an improvement, resulting in another strength of the paper. Unfortunately, the weakness of mine, which holds true to most of my writings, comes with the improper use of grammar and punctuation.…

It started with a dead cat, and it ended with a dead cat. Well, it technically ended with therapy, but you get the picture. Flashback to ninth grade: a friend of my mother called us up to tell her one of the stray neighborhood cats had died, leaving behind a litter of day old kittens. She said she didn't have the time or resources to care for them, and asked if my mom could take them off her hands until they became old enough to give to the SPCA. My mother, with her wretched bleeding heart, obliged more than willingly, and we found ourselves with a litter of newborn kittens for at least the third time.…
