Over the course of one’s lifetime, One typically transforms throughout the years as they are presented with new life situations and new varieties of people that help shape them into a better person. Throughout my 18 years of life, I have without a doubt changed for the better, and I am still transforming daily. It all started whenever I was in kindergarten, developmentally being a year or two behind the other kids because of my late birthday, I had to work harder to comprehend things due to the fast rate at which they were being taught such as the alphabet, basic math, and just about any other thing a normal child learns in elementary school. At the end of my kindergarten year, my teacher at the time proposed the idea of holding me back, and my mom was outraged because someone was telling her that her child wasn’t as good as the others just because I learned at my own pace, so on that same night, she sat me down and told me that she believed in me enough to turn down the offer. Year after year, my mom pushed me and never once let me give up; the child that had been told that she would …show more content…
Although my grades were okay, my freshman year; I fell into the wrong crowd, and as a result, my grades began to fall, I was making bad choices, and I had the mentality that I really didn’t care about anything. I began to turn away the people that cared the most about me, but a few months into my freshman year, the same friends that I thought cared about me, actually ended up spreading terrible rumors about me and bullied me for the remainder of the year. Even after the way that I had treated my mom, she comforted me with open arms and showed me nothing but unconditional love. In that very moment, it was almost like an epiphany happened and I came to the realization that I wanted to change. In the years to come, I became motivated and confident which is completely opposite of the way I had been previously

During that time, I was easily influenced by others that, I thought had a good life style which made me fall in a path that had no future.. My biggest life challenge is speaking up and believing in myself. Growing up, I always played basketball because that’s what my family wanted all us kids to do. I come from a “legacy” of excellent ball players from softball to basketball. Everyone expected my cousins and I to carry on the talent. I had some talent and was decent at basketball, but fell short to my cousins.…

The Journey “One glance at a book and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for 1,000 years. To read is to voyage through time.” - Carl Sagan, an astronomer, astrophysicist, and author I never loved to read. It always seemed boring and purposeless, which caused me to never truly focus on the meaning of the author’s message. My mind always wandered because I never felt the words that the authors were feeling.…

A motif that haunts the months of college applications and preparation is the daunting idea of seniors entering into the "real world." An alleged, new realm of reality that discredits the validity of the last few years in high school, not to mention the three before that and all the experiences previously. This concept coincides seamlessly with the idea that college is a beacon of newfound adulthood. Even so, each student's differing personality, aspirations, culture and tribulations falsifies the belief that adulthood is that straightforward. Thus, in order to define the moment that marked my transition into adulthood, I must first define what being an adult means to me.…

Though I’m still developing my legacy, I like to think that most people who know me, regardless of how well, consider me a person that can put a smile on nearly any face. From my time in high school as photo studio assistant getting babies to giggle on camera to my work as a personal trainer cracking jokes to help clients through the worst parts of their workouts; I learned that a little laughter can improve any situation. While this is a fairly simple impact to have on people, I do believe that it’s a powerful one. My own experiences with bereavement, chronic ill health and periods of poor mental health have shown me the value of a person that puts in the effort and time to get a smile out of someone. Though happiness is a pretty fleeting…

My Birth Story Birth stories have a lasting impact on expectant mothers. Recognizing the influence of birth stories is a key component of informal communication of knowledge about childbirth for expectant mothers. The goals of the birth story interview and discussion are to provide an opportunity to explore the sharing of a birth story as a critical way of knowing within the family and community, and also to promote understanding of the prenatal period and taking-on of the parental role. The topic of storytelling is important to nurses and families, as it allows the integration of the nurses’ experiences into their future nursing practice, which may be invaluable in facilitating authentic and meaningful connections with their patients.…

Before beginning this leadership course I knew the basic definition of what leadership means to me. This definition has been shaped by many events and people. My Timeline and My Lifeline represent events in my life that have contributed to who I am today. Some national events like the attacks of 9/11 and Columbine (that occurred four days before I was born), increased safety concerns for all of the nation which is why employers want to ensure who he or she hires is qualified and someone he or she can trust, while lawmakers often raise the issue of safety when passing a law. Other national events are increasingly surrounding technology.…
