On March 10th I was given permission from my section to stay home from work to take care of my daughter due to her being released from the emergency room the night before. While at home with my daughter, I was using this time to pack my house in preparation for my family’s pending move at the end of the month. While going through papers I decided to have a beer not thinking that I would be called into work for any reason. Approximately 1130 I received a phone call from Master Gunnery Sergeant Hernandez informing me that my name was on the Urinalysis Roster. I informed the Master Gunnery Sergeant Hernandez that I had my daughter with me and didn’t have alternative child care, but that I would but able to make it to the urinalysis before 1400. What I should have done differently was confronted Gunnery Sergeant Scudder and remind him that I was still standing by, and ask him what his plan was for me or if he still needed me to continue waiting. I understand that by me telling the Gunnery Sergeant that I had a beer must have been off-putting and not of the norm, I still should have been more patient. My thought at that at this point was how my daughter was doing in my Absence. When I returned from the urinalysis the proper action should have been to tell my Master Gunnery Sergeant Hernandez what took place and awaited further guidance. After leaving the office I did not immediately return home being that it was midafternoon and neither I nor my daughter had lunch. So, I decided to get lunch for the two of us and eat at the park. I understand that I was unable to be reached on my cell phone for a couple of hours and accountability is paramount in the military. During the time that I was unavailable, I did not have my cell phone on me and did not think that anyone was trying to reach
