My Learning Styles Reflection

Learning Styles Reflection The learning style I most strongly identified with was visual, however a combination of all four learning styles is what I believe benefits me the most. A visual learner absorbs information best through seeing it. Whether it be seeing a math problem done before them while it is being explained, or seeing words typed out on PowerPoint while a professor lectures. Taking detailed notes during lecture type classes also helps visualize the information later on while trying to recall it. Some helpful things for visual learners, for example, would be diagrams, graphs, illustrations, and other visual forms of information. I benefit greatly from highlighting, and color-coding certain things in my notes. This helps very much …show more content…
I tend to remember those facts quicker because I pay attention to the information while re-writing it. For kinesthetic learning, it is not something that I get the opportunity to do often. It is hands-on learning. However; when there are study sessions and interactive study games for some of my classes I do enjoy it, and it usually helps me understand things I may not have before. Visual learning is my strongest learning style and I use that for the most part, but I am versatile in the study techniques that I use. I did know that I was a visual learner before the assessment, but verifying it was a good reassurance that I am studying the way that I should be. In classes where teachers presented the information to me in interesting ways, and made it interactive and easy to follow, I always seemed to do better. For that reason, the assessment results did not surprise me, but it was nice to see some of the other ways I could gear my visual learning to my advantage. Also, discovering that I am a pretty strong learner in other learning styles as well was nice to know. I am hopeful that gaining the knowledge of other study strategies I could possibly use will …show more content…
For example, in any math class I have ever taken, it is not enough for me to just see the professor working out a problem and explaining it. I need to use some kinesthetic learning techniques and get hands on with it. Being able to work the problems out for myself and see problems translated into real life (AKA story problems) helps me understand them more. My approach for my preferred learning style in my math class wouldn’t change too much from the visual style. I would still want to see the professor work things through on the board, and I would follow along and copy the notes just like in any other class. However, the part that would change is the studying. Instead of just re-reading my notes out loud with a study buddy, or using flashcards to study, I would take a different approach. What I like to do is take the problems the professor uses as examples in class, and attempt to do them on my own. If I get confused along the way, I always have my notes to tell me where I went wrong or what I missed. This is a very helpful way to catch myself in a mistake and learn how to do it correctly, and therefore, understand how to do it. For other classes I use mostly visual learning techniques

According to the Learning Styles Inventory. My most developed and strongest learning styles are bodily-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. The test reveals that I am not highly developed in any particular type of intelligence and I am weak and underdeveloped in visual-spatial, logical-mathematical, and naturalist intelligences. The book suggests that as a person with stronger interpersonal strengths, study strategies such as going over notes with fellow students are helpful. Based on my results as a strong verbal-linguistic individual, rewriting my notes in order to eliminate excess information and to hone into the important ideas, would be beneficial to my success in this course.…

The purpose of this paper is to identify and compare the meaning as well as the differences of three learning styles as they relate to both the academic and professional realm. I have chosen these three styles because I believe the majority of people are either visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. Each person has his or her own way of converting, processing, storing, and retrieving information. The way we connect the information is an important part of the learning process. Learning is an individual process unique to everyone and as individuals we tend to prefer different learning methods.…

This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.…

In a general group, there are usually several different learning types among the group. For example, I am a very visual and reading/writing learner. I learn best when something is written out for me to see. However, my brother Will is a very kinesthetic learner, who learns by seeing and trying things for himself. If a speaker was writing a speech for my brother and I, he or she may want to consider adding in visual elements and demonstrations.…

When working with people that are more inclined to another learning style or method, you can learn from them while also helping to teach your own learning style to those around you. For a kinesthetic learner, learning how to make more succinct and cogent notes would help when there is something of importance that is mentioned within the learning experience that is complex enough to not be able to commit it to memory; something that is more of an abstract quality would be an example of this. The ability to listen, write it down, and read it back without any signal loss is key to increasing your multimodal learning experience. Additionally, being able to visualize something, as well as identify from a presented visual artifact, is a trait that many strong kinesthetic learners need to increase skills within. The abstract modeling of something within the mental space can prove advantageous when dealing with several ideologies within a chosen field; such interventional modeling, disease cluster grouping, and biostatistical analyses within public health journal articles.…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal.
