I found that throughout my learning attempts that my self-assurance strength became a valuable thing to have. Throughout many times of trying and failing I was able to pick myself up through this process and reassure myself with the confidence needed to keep going. Responsibility being one of my top signature themes became very handy to have during this whole learning process. I found that this strength gave me the ability to keep going, because this process was so important to me, I was able to take this on and learn the necessary skills to fulfill this learning goal. I was able to step up to the plate and take full responsibility for what I was doing and successfully attempted a skill that I had never done before. With that strength came my strength of adaptability. This strength gave me the ability to roll with the punches. I learn best through engaging hands-on activities. For example, I’ve learned how to perform CPR on a dummy, dissect a baby pig, and partake in an EMT simulation. Performing CPR on a dummy has taught me how deep I need to push down when performing CPR and how fast I need to go. Dissecting a baby pig has presented a better visual for me to locate various organs/systems and the EMT simulation taught me to think on my feet and work quickly in a team environment.…

Many times when one thinks of being an RA the financial benefits of the job opportunity becomes the focus. While I am happy about those awesome benefits those are not my only primary focuses. I am hoping to become an RA because I enjoy working with other people, developing professional skills, and building a community. Being a Sociology major, this experience will allow me to really have an on hands training of what I am learning here in my classrooms at U.C. Berkeley. I know that I am capable of handling this position as being an RA, because of my past experiences working with elderly people and also working with high school students.…

A Classroom Story During my certification year I had several classroom observations that were conducted by members of my support team. My support team consisted of the principal, 6th grade specialist, and the FDRESA member. Not all members were required to sit in at every observation. One particular observation made me extremely proud of my students. It was just an ordinary observation and the students knew that someone would be dropping in just to observe the class and the focus of the observation would be on me, as a teacher.…

My educational story started a long time ago in Bogota, Colombia. Being one of four children in a low socioeconomic class made it difficult for my parents to afford a college education for all of us. My older brothers were in the engineering school, which was expensive, stretching my parent's pockets and, reducing the possibility for them to pay for my college tuition. When I was finishing high school, I looked at my different possibilities to pay for my education without having to resort on my parent’s money. I found out about a grant that a prestigious university offered to high school students with the best high school grades, and the best scores in the ICFES test (similar to the ACT test in North America).…
