My Leadership Style Analysis

A leader is someone who can have an important impact on a group of people. They are role models and they inspire people to do the best that they can. They are usually enthusiastic, committed, and empowering. Wherever anyone goes throughout their life, they are bound to come across numerous leaders. Some of these leaders may have respectable traits and others may have leadership traits that need to be worked on. Many people may even eventually find themselves in a leadership role. I scored 53 points out of 80, which is a little lower my transactional score but still relatively high. I believe that I do identify with this leadership style in some ways but I can also understand why it is the style that I scored lowest on. The transformational leadership style is made of four components: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. The first component, idealized influence, describes a leader who is a significant role model to their team members. They are looked up to, well respected, and they make decisions. I believe that I can be an influence on others but I do not think I am highly confident with myself. I second-guess myself a lot and that is a weakness that I need to improve on. I am usually the person who is looking for someone be inspired by and be my role model. However, I know that sometimes people may look up to me as well. I think that this component is a very important quality for a leader to possess. The next component of this leadership style is inspirational motivation which means that the leader constantly motivates his or her team members to perform well which can significantly help boost morale. I strongly agree with this element and I think that I do a decent job motivating people. During group projects, I am constantly trying to let people know that they are doing outstanding work, allowing them to feel confident and appreciated. With the third component of the leadership style, leaders show intellectual stimulation by encouraging their team members to use innovation and critical thinking skills to succeed with their work. This is something that I know is important for a leader to do. However, I think it is what I struggle with the most. I do not believe I am the best at critical thinking and I tend to lean on other people for support when it comes to solving

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

In terms of leadership style, I would consider myself more towards social leadership that focused more on teamwork, resolving disputes and providing support (Myers, 2013). Instead of directing the other group members on what to do, I distributed my authority with my group members by giving them the opportunity to voice their ideas as well as involving them in decisions making processes. I believed that group members felt more appreciated when their suggestions were acknowledged which then enhanced more creative and productive thoughts. This was due to the fact that brainstorming that involved the entire group encourages and stimulates ideas from different individuals (Nemeth, Personnaz, Personnaz & Goncalo,…
