Leadership Style Reflection

Coming into this class, I believed I had a very clear understanding of my leadership style and how I was able to work through different situations. My leadership style has a major influence from my home life and how I was taught to act and to treat others. With this, going through the different types of leadership during class, such as the seven C’s, the Myer-Briggs personality test, and the Leadership styles test, has let me understand more clearly the leadership styles I have developed over time. I have come to realize that the seven C’s most important to me are Commitment, Consciousness of Self, and Citizenship and I try to use each of these in my daily life even when I am not leading. I believe that the seven C’s that most fit my leadership style are Consciousness of Self, Commitment, and Citizenship. For the first C I chose Consciousness of Self. This is because I know who I am and that I have a purpose on this earth that will get done. However, I was not always this way. In high school everyone always thought I had everything figured out and that I was always a very happy …show more content…
However, without them to guide me I would not be the dedicated person I am today. With realizing this, I am learning more about my leadership style and how I can develop it to be stronger based on what I am learning in the class. I want to be able to be more of my own leader and rely on others without stressing about the little things. I want others to believe in me and be aware that I know my believes and who I am, I want others to see that I do belong to a great community and I want that community to grow wherever I make my home next, and I also want others to be able to rely on me and trust me to get the job done. These are some of the strengths that I believe I possess and I want to use these to become a better leader in the Montgomery Leadership Program and also in my everyday

    1. After reflecting on who or what event provided me with leadership influence I concluded there wasn’t one person or one event that has had the most effect on me to strive to become a better leader or person for that matter. Many of my past supervisors and present alike have been good and bad with more good than bad. I attempt to take pieces from each of their leadership qualities, use things I liked and stayed away from their “bad” leadership qualities I did not believe helped me grow as a leader or produce quality jobs or mission results. All the while, my own personality and beliefs intertwined with their leadership styles to make me who I am today as a leader.…

Theo Haimann once said, “Leadership is the process by which an executive imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in attaining specified goals.” I believe that is my strongest quality. When I was little, even my parents seemed to look to me when my brother and I had a task, even though it didn’t always abide well with my brother who didn’t like being “shown up” by his younger sibling. For every situation I am put in, I don’t just accept the “follower mentality.” I want others to look up to me as somebody they desire to follow, just like a leader in my life that I strive to emulate, my mentor and band director, John Gray.…

The job of a principal in any academic setting is a monumental task as students, curriculum, parents, teachers, faculty, legal issues, etc., all vie for guidance and attention. But I believe that the job of a Catholic school leader entails far more because I believe the profession of Catholic school leader is a vocation rooted in Christ. My role as a Catholic school principal is one of managerial leader, educational leader and most importantly as spiritual leader. It is my job to nurture a faith community that is built with relational trust and where my school can be transformed into a sacred place (Sergiovanni, 2015, p.12).…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. Participation at Work Leadership exists in a complicated world, not a vacuum. With that reality in mind, we would be wise to consider Socrate’s words as written in Plato’s (n.d.) Apology: “the life which is unexamined is not worth living” (Socrates ' Proposal for his Sentence section, para 4). In the pursuit of self-examination, then, The University of Kent’s (2011) “How to Find Out Your Style of Leadership” assessment, proved a valuable tool. Upon completing the required 50 questions, I found that the test results gauged my leadership style as mainly participative.…

Leadership is both a science and an art. Good leadership requires an accurate sense of self, a well-communicated vision, the ability to earn the trust of others and the capability to take effective action. In order to “build your house of leadership” your actions must inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. (Duren, Lec. 2). Throughout the semester, I have learned that some of the five Kouzes and Posner leadership practices in The Leadership Challenge come naturally to me while others do not.…
