A competence is the ability or capability to do something. In a leaders case this means his power and will over his followers and society. A leaders competencies are his most important assets. In other words ambitions are dreams and goals. Now of course leaders should have ambitions, but to an extent. The good things about ambitions are that they will cause a leader to fight hard and to the best of his ability for his dreams. The leader really said goals so he will stop at nothing to do so. This is also why ambitions could be a leader’s downfall. Maybe the leader’s ambitions are unattainable. Maybe the leader is fighting with his all and using up his resources for no reason. In my opinion a leader should be careful with his ambitions.
Shortcomings are failure or faults typically found in someone’s character. To me the perfect leader should be, just that, perfect. I don’t think a leader should have any faults or shortcomings if possible. Some minor shortcomings would be acceptable though. In a reading from Carlyle he stated the leader should be the most able man. I believe that the closer you are to being perfect the closer you are to being “most able”.
