My Leadership Philosophy

Decent Essays
Ever since I started high school my freshman year, I was always interested in having some kind of leadership role in the clubs that interested me. Unfortunately I wanted until my junior to take up any leadership positions. However, these leadership positions have changed me for the good, and I will forever be thankful for it. Taking up these roles forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, which in turn made me a more bubbly, less shy person. Also, I can tell it has affected how I work at my job. Out of my coworkers, I am usually the one taking charge. If I would not have immersed myself into these leadership roles, I would have been the one taking direction, not giving it. I feel much more prepared for college and the real world because

Another time that I have taken a leadership role is when our sideline cheer team had a booth at the Water Festival. I took the morning shift and when I got there I had all of the materials but only me and my coach had shown up and she still had to head back to the school to get the things we were selling. So while she went and got the stuff I stayed at the booth and lead it by myself until my teammates came and helped. I decided to be a leader in this situation because I knew that it was what I had to do to help my coach out so that she could get her stuff done. I believe that by leading the booth for a few hours I helped my coach accomplish what she had to do for the day and helped my team by sitting at the booth fundraising to help pay for some of our debts.…

I worked up my solo on my own and ended up getting a 1 at state.…

I have never really thought of myself as a leader, because I was usually quiet and self centered. Sophomore year was the year I truly became assertive and controlling that made me become a “leader”. Besides being challenged in academics and music, my role in sports became more defined that year. Track season during spring started out fine as everything was relaxing and looking good. With a small core of discus and shotput throwers, around three out of six of us were looking to go big.…

My leadership experience began when my supervisor and his colleagues had an important meeting to attend and had no one sitting in on the office for intake office hours, so he asked me and another intern, Isaiah, to sit in from 9 AM-3PM. My supervisor taught us the main component of this position in 10 minutes. At first, I was nervous because I was new to the agency and it was my first time performing front desk duties. But after a couple of clients I began to get more comfortable and confident with the process because I had performed similar duties when I was in my cubicle. At this moment I felt like I was a leader because I was put in a position where I had minimum training, but still could take control of the office duties, and according to my supervisor, my performance level was beyond expectations.…

Introduction Ones’ leadership platform is a foundation of components that make up the roadmap “to success” based on what is important to them. It is important to have an understanding of the different leadership styles and leadership theories, in order to develop the leadership platform. It is also important to note that there “are almost as many different definitions of leadership as there are people who have tried to define it” (Northouse, 2013, p. 2). As we progress in knowledge, technology, and growth as a society, so do the leadership styles and theories. As stated by Northhouse (2013), “Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (p.5)…
