My Leadership Philosophy

The word “leadership” brings to mind many different thoughts. On top of that, it could relate to varieties of topics, such as political leadership, community leadership, religious leadership, business leadership, etc. In my opinion, a great leader is always focused, willing for teamwork, have confidence, is inspired, have patience, is open-minded, and always strives for success. There are many examples in which great leadership is recognized, such as participating in college sports, being a student leader, and being a Christian leader. While one thinks of an individual as a leader, my philosophy of great leader is a person who sets direction, have long-term goals, have a vision, create new ideas, and helps him or herself as well as others to do right things. Throughout life, I have had many chances of understanding the meaning “leader” by being one. To clarify, I have experienced leadership through being the oldest child in my family, the captain of Hope International University (HIU) Women’s Tennis Team, a part of groups’ presentations in school, as well as a part of my family’s business, and having many other leadership positions. Playing tennis in college gave me the opportunity to be on both sides, winning and losing teams; however, no matter what happens a great leader should never give up. The successful team leader should always support, encourage, and hold together with the rest of the team. Being a team player develops a great leader with providing great communication and collaboration skills with other team members. Additionally, a great leader is also a good listener who accepts criticism and is open-minded towards new topics.
