According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, leadership is defined as “the office or position of a leader” or “the act or instance of leading” (2017). According to Post, “Leadership…foundation stems from one thing: the ability of an individual to establish a following among other individuals or teams.” (Business News Daily) The experiences and influences throughout my career have molded my leadership style into a results-based leadership philosophy. There have been several books and publications describing Results-Based leadership. However, I did not find myself pulled to their words, but more to the overall meaning of the “end state”. As a Federal Law Enforcement officer and member of the USCG, my personal values and my occupation are complementary. This is more than likely the reason I was drawn to each of them. Foundations of these values are the pillars of societal norms and treating others with respect. I express these values in my actions, through my execution of duties, mentorship, and sage guidance given to those appointed over me.
