In the past, when faced with a problem I have sometimes found it difficult to find a solution that works well for everyone. As an example, I worked in a hospital over the summer as a therapeutic assistant. This job allowed me to be part of an interdisciplinary team but also began to develop my leadership skills. I was usually the only therapeutic assistant who worked on two units so I really had to advocate to nursing staff and doctors the importance of my role for quality patient care. At one point throughout the summer I had newly hired employees shadow me and learn about my job. In a situation like this, skills on problem solving when being asked questions would have been beneficial. In addition, skills in effective communication and facilitation techniques would prove to be favourable. I want to be comfortable and confident in a position of leadership. By developing essential leadership skills, I hope to be able to apply for positions of management and leadership and be confident in my skill set. As well, by taking this course and actively participating, I hope to gain knowledge, skills and attributes that will benefit me greatly in my future career in health …show more content…

Team members count on me for new ideas and perspective when working on a project and ensuring tasks are complete. I also see myself as a proactive listener with the ability to take on the problems of my team members in order to help solve them. Another trait that I feel I have is the ability to be positive and motivate others to achieve a task. I have been told that I am a positive person that others look up to. To demonstrate this, as a senior day camp leader my manager gave me the task for helping to train new leaders. I was able to guide the new day camp leaders in the planning process for day camp. This allowed me to

Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
