My Last Personal Statement
When my time comes, I want to be remembered by the things I have achieved in school as well as my personal life. I want to be remembered by my strength and ability to overcome things in life that other individuals might find rather traumatizing. Other people seem to value individuals who show incredible strength and the ability to overcome and pull through difficult situations. I want to be a role model to people or individuals who have went through what I have went through or situations where strength is needed to overcome. I want to encourage people to keep moving forward even though it can be challenging at times. To begin my story I will start from the beginning. I was born on January 1, 1999 in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. This town is small and not very interesting, besides the fact that it was the first French settlement town East of the Mississippi River. My town is less than five thousand people. Also, my graduating class was less than 150 students, in which I was maybe friends with about four of the students.

I graduated high school with two gold chords which are given for an outstanding GPA and high achievements. My high school experience was honestly terrible and I hated everything about it. My classmates were always arguing and did not like each other. My school was also very invested in sports and only cared about the athletes. No other student were recognized like the athletes and were not accepted into clubs such as National Honor Society. The athletes were the most important students in the school. The faculty did not care about the individuals who invested all their time into their

Everyone wants to leave behind a legacy; something people will remember them by. When we think of others that have passed on we often remember them for a certain quality they possessed. We also remember people for the type of person they were and what they took through life with them. Recently, I read “The Last Lecture” by author Randy Pausch. Paush has terminal cancer, and he tries to find a way to leave behind a legacy for his children and the world.…

High school was either going to help me make it or break it. Bell High School was not among the top high schools in my district. It was known for its high drop out rates, teen pregnancies, and gang violence. As I rushed to school attempting to finish my homework because I was not able to finish while babysitting, I always herd “Hey come take a hit “or “ look at this new product, try it out”, we all wanted to succeed, but nobody wanted to put in the time and effort to divert us from the wrong paths. Unfortunately, this led may students towards drug addictions and gang violence.…

As I careened along the course for my first ever practice, I was struck with how unusual it was for me to do something so daring. Usually very cautious, I had only been asked to join Buggy a week prior, and there I was, lying only a few inches off of the ground in a motorless buggy, with my hands in front of me to steer. Peering through the windshield with an assortment of protective gear, I watched the track zoom by at 25 miles per hour. Buggy is a sport unique to Carnegie Mellon University, where students from all majors join to build and compete buggies. Looking back, there are many parallels between my experience with the sport, and the development of my career aspirations.…

My most positive high school experience for me has to be when I was inducted into National Honor Society for my senior year. This was something that I has been striving to do since my freshman year after I received my first academic letter. But after our school decided to only allow seniors to be inducted, raised the GPA requirement, and reduced the amount of people that would be allowed to be inducted I wasn’t sure if my goal would still be attainable. But after three years of strenuous classes, constant volunteer service, and keeping my grades up I finally received an acceptance letter and was inducted into NHS where I am able to surround myself with others that have the same academic goals as…

Opportunities for a good education are there if they are willing to work as much at that as at football”. (Sloan S. and Favero D. 1) Scholastics in student athletes unfortunately take a back seat role in their college years, because students believe that they are indeed helping the university. Every student helps the university in some form so what differentiates a student athlete from a regular student? Critics say that students should be paid for going above and beyond and taking time out of their day to practice or to play a sport that they could be studying or doing something scholastically related. This idea is exactly what causes strife within a student body.…

As a quiet middle school student, I never imagined that I would grow to be who I am today, but with my drive, I have learned that anything is possible. While I come from an agriculturally-focused family, my interests as a young boy were divided between aviation and computers. At the age of 13, I began to focus more on my digital hobbies after a neighbor offered to assist me in learning the art of programming. During the next few years, he mentored me in software development using primarily C# with the .NET Framework. In that time, I created a collection of small personal applications and games as I experimented with code and concepts. At age 17, I became interested in interacting with the physical world through the digital one with the use of microcontrollers.…

I’m aware that happiness is a feeling and like any other feeling it’s only momentarily. However, when I decided who I wanted to be when I grew up, I definitely knew I wanted to help others find happiness. This may sound cliche, but I believe that when one is happy everything else falls into place. Psychology has fascinated me ever since I was a teenager. The benefit of speaking to someone that is unbiased and is there to listen with the sole purpose of helping someone essentially find happiness and peace within, is precisely what I hope to do for the rest of my life.…

When I was ten years old, I could not read. My father was a professional golf caddy for the P.G.A. Tour, so my family traveled state to state for nine months of each year, following the golf tournaments in a R.V. This meant that my parents had no choice but to homeschool me and my two younger brothers. Yet my inability to read was not a result of incompetence, but rather a belief in an extreme interpretation of the Waldorf Education approach to learning. My schooling, up to that point, was primarily play, art, and field trips throughout the country. My parents believed that a child would learn to read naturally in the same way a child learns to talk: that through exposure and time they would read when ready.…
