Obedience basically means compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another's authority. Following the orders of authority blindly can have many negative effects. My Lai Massacre, Jonestown Massacre, Millgram Experiment and Nanking Massacre are some incidents that have caused negative consequences as a result of obedience to authority.
My Lai Massacre took place in 1968. On the morning of March 16, 1968, soldiers of Charlie company, arrived in the hamlet of My Lai in the northern part of South Vietnam. Jonestown Massacre is considered as one of the most horifying tragerdies in American History. Jim Jones moved his temple to Guyana after his church in San Francisco was accused of financial fraud, physical abuse of its members and mistreatment of children. When Ryan, the inestigating officer arriven in Jonestown, several Jonestown residents approached him and asked him for passage out of Guyana. A distressed Jones commanded everyone to gather in the main pavillion. The Japanese army invaded the Nanking city from all directions and launced a massive attack on the city. The Japanese army captured thousands of civilians. Many were taken to the Yangtze river, where they were macine-gunned so their bodies would be carried down to Shanghai. Thousands were led away and mass-executed. Many people were burned, beaten to death, nailed to the trees and even hung by their tongues. Women and children were also not spared. Women were first brutally raped and then killed.
