MY KIDS I remember being a kid thinking, if I could just live in Disneyland forever life would be so awesome and fun. I am now a privileged parent and my kids inspire me to be a better person because they look up to me, which helps me make better choices in life. My kids believe in me and that has inspired me to return to college to earn my degree. My kids inspire me to love due to the fact that they provide love to me that is pure that will last forever. I remember becoming a parent never realizing how much your kids would play a big part in your life by strengthening you, inspiring you and carving you into a person that they can count on to make it through difficult times in life. Going through the trials of parenting has strengthened me and carved me into who I am. Through it all I have also been inspired by my son to keep moving forward just by looking into his face knowing he is counting on me.
The unexpected phone call that I received brought me the most devastating and trying time of my life. It was a normal sunny day in California and I was attending an all-day business meeting and it was close to dark when I received a phone call, just as I was about to get in my car to go home. The caller I.D. read hospital, so I answered the phone, “Hello “. And the hospital staff asked, “Is this Kevin McElhannon I am speaking with”,“ I replied yes, it is what’s the problem?” She then said, “WE just received your daughter in the emergency room and we are trying to revive her.”
I REPLIED, “WHAT ARE YOU SURE?””WHAT HAPPENED?”,” THIS HAS TO BE A MISTAKE.” The nurse said, “She fell in a pool and at the moment she is in a coma”, so you need to come to the hospital as soon as possible. I replied, “Okay, thank you”. I am on my way. As I hung the phone up I was stunned and I didn’t rush right away, hoping I will get a call in 30 minutes or so stating she is okay and stable. I already had this strange feeling that it wasn’t going to be
