The Keys To Success program has influenced me to achieve the best academic performance. It has taught me that hard work never goes unpaid. I have always been taught that to be succesful you have to always give it your all. I have always known that if you want to be successful you need a plan and a set goals. From a small age I have known what it's like to work hard, I have had exceptional examples of hard work from my parents. Being Hispanic and moving into a new country, getting started was hard. My father had gone to school for 9 years to be a digital designer and my mother had studied and worked as a Chef. When we got to the United States, we didn't have many work options, knowing absolutely no english, my mother worked as a maid and my father worked as a custodian. …show more content…
He would work from 3pm to 6am every day. Because we were so small and had no family in the country we went to work with them. We would sit in the buildings break room and wait patiently until my parents were done with work. There were many times when my parents wanted to give up. It would have been so much easier to just go back to Chile but my loving parents worked hard to give us a better life. They have always taught us that education is an essential part of our growth. I have always known that to be true and now being a High School junior thank my parents everyday for the sacrifice they do for us to have a better education. The Keys To Success program has reinforced that belief my parents taught me of the value of academic success and I will continue to strive for the best educational opportunities

Along my journey in school I remember all the sacrifices my parents did for me and my siblings. For example, my father Adolfo Garcia would work from Monday to Saturday from sun up to sun down in order to provide food on the table, clothing on our backs, and a roof over are heads. Although both of my parents encourage and motivate me to attend school and pursue higher education, I am also motivated by all the sacrifices they have made because I know that if it wasn’t for the support of my parents I would not be where I am…

I grew up in a relatively small Southern California town, surrounded by shrub-covered mountains and filled with a constant, smothering heat. My house is a simple, one-floor, ranch-style on a suburban street, in the middle of a triad of my elementary school, my junior high school, and my high school. Suffice to say, school was never out of walking distance. My parents are hard-working and traditional Asian-Americans, and I grew up immersed in our Filipino culture. I like to think that it was from my parents that I recieved my work ethic.…

Last week, I implemented an academic strategy from one of my five StrengthsQuest themes. I found that most of my themes provided academic strategies to keep me motivated in school. Undoubtedly, these strategies are helpful in advancing for the future, but I felt that these strategies would not drastically impact my studies in the course of a week. Nonetheless, I found a study technique in my Restorative Theme packet that seemed like it could make a monumental difference in the way I read class texts. This strategy is a study technique to use when reading class text; it tells one to mark different sections in the text that the reader may want to return to later.…

The biggest connection I made with the texts is the importance of support and guidance during middle school. I arrived in America two month prior to starting middle school. Not being able to speak English influenced my performance dramatically. What I had not realized till I read these texts was the immense support I received in middle school. I attended a private school that my family could not afford through scholarships and a huge anonymous contribution.…

24 hours. We all have the same amount of time each and every single day. What we choose to do with that time is entirely up to us. My late father, Sam, who never promoted past grade school, managed to help his parents raise their family in the Philippines when he was a child, married and worked to get all of my half siblings to America “in search of the American Dream”, and along with his second wife, my mother, raised both my only full brother and I, to be hard-working, respectable adults.…

I believe that everyone has at least one childhood event that remains etched in their memory as they grow up. One of my clearest memories growing up is the first time I fell of a horse. I can still picture the scene in my head, starting with the horse spooking and running towards the fence, to the point where I fell off and could see the hooves right above my head. As a six-year-old child this fall should have scared me from riding a horse again, however it ended up having the opposite effect. It made me love this sport, and I was determined to continue riding, despite the reluctance of my parents.…
