New York City: five boroughs; 304.6 square miles; 8.406 million people. It is a city filled with lights and sights. A city that always has something to offer. I came here like all of my classmates; hoping for an adventure, hoping to learn and discover. New York has a way of making any place feel exciting. Whether that is the housing unit, the coffee shop across the street, or a place by the river, every location holds something special to someone. New York is known for its fast paced environment. Known for throwing challenges onto people as soon as they step foot into the city, but there is a world outside of that as well. A world that not many people get to see. Not all of New York City is Times Square. It is not all bright lights and street performers. There are parts of the city that is able to bring people back to a simpler time. A place that feels familiar in a city that seems so foreign. Walking to the East River overlooking Manhattan and being able to relax on the benches allowed me to take in every moment I had been given in this semester. I do not want to claim anything as my own I just want to be a part of it all. I want to surround myself with the culture and the people the city has to offer. I want to be able to experience the world as it is. Not in a way that I think is the most meaningful or most suited to my opinion, but in a way that is most real. I want to be involved in stories taking place at my place. I may not be in the family photo but I am the person with their back to the camera when the photo snaps. I am the person that the young lovers do not even see as they are expressing their love to each other. I am a part of all of their stories, consciously or subconsciously. Immersing oneself into a scene that is unfamiliar to get to know it. To familiarize oneself with the unfamiliar. That is how a person grows and molds his or herself into a person that they are proud to
