The purpose of these journeys was to colonize North America. In 1587, I set out to colonize America. I explored an area in which I later named Virginia to honor Queen Elizabeth. She was known as the Virgin Queen. During this expedition I also sent my people to Roanoke, which ended in failure. A year later, I helped in the conquering of the Spanish Armada. I led a series of raids against the Spanish, which resulted in lots of loot for me and my colonists. All of these attempts ended in failure, but I still wanted to explore. My desire never dimmed. In 1595, I set out to search for the golden city of El Dorado. There was said to be lots of gold mines in this city. Even though I did not find El Dorado, I do still believe that there are large amounts of gold out there waiting to be discovered. While I was out here I had promised that I wouldn’t have any interaction with the Spanish, so I carefully evaded them and ended up almost dying of a fever. One of the guards holds the axe. The blade glistens in the sun. I know the sharp axe is above my head. My body is shaking uncontrollably. I feel like I’m going to pass out, I ask to see how sharp it is. The guard puts the axe right in front of my face and touches it, instantly his finger begins to bleed. There is no doubt that the blade will do the job. The countdown begins. 10, 9, 8, I stare out ahead into the crowd, and remember writing my final words to Bessy just last night. 7 ,6 ,5, 4, 3, I brace myself for impact 2, 1… and everything goes
