Sharon Olds poem, Rite Of Passage, gives an interesting perspective on the transformation. Using beautiful imagery, the reader can visualize a birthday party filled young boys trying to one-up each other. This is first presented when the boys are comparing their ages, “How old are you? Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family. As the pages of my favorite childhood story flutter through my fingers, memories of fantastical worlds flood my mind. I begin to read aloud about the four children, sent away to a mysterious house and the wardrobe that transports them to a magical new land. The tale is just as enchanting as I recall, but this time through the story, the magic I appreciate most is not found in the pages of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.…

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

The one accomplishment that marked my transition from being a child into becoming an adult would have to be when I got my first job at Culver’s. This accomplishment was a major milestone in my life which lead to many other great things to follow it. After applying to many different places I finally got a call back from Culver’s saying that they would like to have me come in to have an interview with me. At first I was a nervous wreck, but with the help of some really good friends with some good tips on how to dress, talk, and answer some of their tougher questions. I really appreciated their help and if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't have got the job.…

National Junior Honor Society has been a dream for me over the course of my school career. However, I never thought I’d be able to make it come true. During my life I’ve seen notable examples of leadership, scholarship, service, citizenship, and character in this world and they’ve influenced me as a person and through NJHS I can make each of these pillars more of a part of my life. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family. In my transition from childhood to adulthood one event stands out. This event was my experience with the American legal system as a witness to a friend that was being unjustly persecuted.
