I grew up in Santa Barbara for most of my life. My parents adopted me as a baby and I am very grateful for their love and support over the years. When I was growing up, I knew I “felt” different. I couldn’t understand why and I wondered why I didn’t look like my parents. I don’t actually remember how I found out but from what my parents told me, they sat me down and explained that I was adopted. I asked them questions about my birth mother. They told me that my birth mother was originally from Oaxaca, Mexico and moved to San Diego before I was born. At the time, my parents were also living in San Diego waiting for me to arrive. I especially remember my elementary teachers encouraging me to do my best and they were very helpful. The few that stood out to me were my second and fifth grade teacher. They both left a very big impression and I can remember many good moments in the classroom. Both teachers took the time to get to know and connect with each of their students. I hope that when I become a teacher I would want to able to do the same for my future students. I think that’s why I want to teach in an elementary school. I want to be able to provide a fun and exciting learning environment like my teachers did for
