My Journey To Becoming A Registered Nurse

My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this Executive RN Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301. My quest of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) actually began in the year 2000 while I was an Emergency Medical Technician in the military. My wife 's and my military colleagues ' encourage me to go back to school to become an RN. I took and completed all my general education requirements for the Associate Degree in Nursing and finally became a nursing student in the Fall of 2001 with intentions to obtain my BSN soon after that. In the Summer of 2014, she embarked on her journey by starting Nursing 301 and I began mine by slowing nipping away at some of my General Education requirements. The Summer of 2015 was filled with mixed feelings, my wife and I were elated when she finally graduated from the Executive RN program but we were also saddened when we received word that the 2015-2016 Executive RN program was cancelled until the Summer of 2017 due to low interest (with the possibility of further cancellation if interest in the program remains low). With this disappointing news, I enrolled and took classes at University of Hawaii West Oahu with the intention of completing my upper division requirements for the Executive RN program (after multiple consultations with Ms. Tracie Chagami and Ms. Connie Gazmen - both were very helpful) or obtain a Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration (PUBA); either way, it 's a win-win situation. Upon completing 15 credits in PUBA, I got word that UH Manoa will again try to start the Executive RN program for the Fall of 2016 with no guarantee of it moving forward if the minimum 30 students enrollment are not met. With our financial situation, I 'm embarking on looking and possibly applying for any available scholarships. However, as with any scholarships, they require a bit of writing, which at times can be taxing due to the already existing writing requirements of school work, mixed in with parental responsibilities and work schedule. In addition, being turned down for any scholarship can also be a disappointing experience that can also discourage me from applying for additional
