Introduction
Is it possible to please God without integrating faith and learning? My journey as a Christian continues to mature daily as I strive to please my Lord and Savior as I live according to his Word. My journey includes going to church, studying his Word, fellowshipping with other believers while pursuing my degree and allowing me to gain wisdom and understanding. As I continue my personal development, I hold myself accountable by studying to show myself approved as well as being steadfast in prayer. My desire to invest in my education to increase my knowledge and understanding creates the opportunity to get wisdom. Regent’s course, BOTB 500 Old Testament is valuable as it has broadened my awareness and interpretation beyond my expectations;

I have much adoration for the scribes who had the patience to take time to transcribe vital biblical events, of which believers (such as myself) of today use for guidance and inspiration. According to Bill T. Arnold and Bryan E. Beyers, authors of Encountering the Old Testament (Encountering Biblical Studies): A Christian Survey, “The Masoretes succeeded in preserving the text for the Old Testament ensuring an accurate transmission to later generations .” They took the following steps to ensure accuracy: 1) Developed a system of writing vowels, 2) Invented a system of accents for the Hebrew language, and 3) Established a system of detailed notes of the text. According to Arnold, “A vast majority of the Old Testament text was originally written in Hebrew and a few in other languages; and considered to be the most reliable of all …show more content…
Specifically, lessons that worked for me were related to learning about he the Masoretes scribes as their role was very critical for the present time. In addition, the reading on ‘thinking theologically’ helped me to identify my faults and providing a remedy as related to communicating theology. Furthermore, the lesson on three types of context was beneficial as it pondered techniques to use to properly interpret God’s Word. Lastly, the exegetical assignments a contributed to my hands-on experience of breaking down verses and truly understand what God is saying. All-in-all it’s a great class and I highly recommend

    It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

    There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

    I find myself fascinated listening to this man. I sit here amongst a crowd of hundreds of men, women, and children. We are all amazed at the knowledge that he speaks. The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible share many common elements amongst their narratives, but certain elements of these narratives such as the change of pace in characters, narratives, morals, and the general concept of the contexts make the two collections contradictory to one another. In addition, the narratives change pace through different events, results of different stories, different points of view, and through details that are or may not be mentioned when comparing the two collections. Through this, the main focus in these stories become different. This leads insight into the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible’s authors’ main goals or positions on the narratives they are telling. The authors in the Dead Sea Scrolls tend to focus on the human’s…

    The Bible, the single greatest legacy of the Jews, has been translated into more than two thousand languages and is the most commonly read and significant body of literature in all of human history. The bible or what we call the Old Testament, which is the earliest and at the same time the most important of Jewish writing is the keystone of Jewish literature. It is written, for the most part, in Hebrew and extends over the period ending with the second century before the Common Era. It is most reliable and the fair reflection of the original characteristics of the Jewish people. “The biblical literature has given the closest attention of all nations and every stage.”…

    My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…

    Before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Second Temple Judea was perceived as a monolithic society, but these works allude to a number of different Jewish sects, such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes. The Scrolls clarify our understanding of the fundamental differences between these sects and show just how contrasting their various worldviews and practices actually were. All of the ancient Jewish groups seem to have agreed about the centrality and importance of the Bible, although their conceptions of sacred literature may have diverted. They further our knowledge of ancient biblical interpretation and the effect of historical events on religious life and ideas. The texts shed light on philosophical disputes about issues such…

    Before deciding to attend CTS, my primary goal was to first learn the Bible, become a minister and teach the Bible to others. I marvel at clergy that quote scriptures from their mouths without looking first hand and anticipate the day when I can do the same. The Bible contains answers to everyday issues (the good, the bad and the ugly) and helps us to learn about theology and ourselves. For this reason, I stand more excited about taking this class as opposed to many of my other classes. By learning the Bible my life would be enhanced and guided in the direction initially intended by the Lord.…

Through my years of growing from a child, to a teenager, to a young adult, and now to a mother –I have come to realize the obligation of duty, the necessity of belief, and the requirement of love for embracing religion. It was the year I was starting fourth grade, and my parents had this brilliant idea to move our family from a diversely ethnic Chicago to an all-white school in the suburbs.…
