My journey started with the desire to reach a group of individuals that shared a similar interest. I decided to begin my project at the Discovery World in Milwaukee. I contacted the volunteer program coordinator and expressed my desire to become a part of their training program. My first test of confidence came when they requested an interview as a part of their program. Unfortunately, speaking with new people had not been something that I was particularly comfortable with. This led me to join a program at my high school called “Kids for Kids.” It is a tutoring program for young children at Milwaukee College Preparatory school. This was definitely a new experience for me, working with the kids to find different ways to help them with their math homework. While math has always been my strongest subject, I never thought my love for math could actually lead me to help others. My parents have always told me to tutor my siblings and their friends, but this was nothing like that. The kids that I was tutoring were totally new to me.
