My Reflection Of My Internship With Allied Barton

Improved Essays
As it comes to the end of my internship with Allied Barton it was a decent time. Though when thinking of my likes and dislike there are much more dislikes than likes. This I feel is mostly true for my fellow interns but it 's rather disappointing. Since this wasn’t the internship that I wanted they aren’t that many similarities to the activities performed as a security guard related to my career goals. That being said I wasn 't interning for the job I intended on going into I can’t say it wasn’t a learning experience for me. Looking at the likes they are mostly basic everyday job perks. I liked my boss Lisa she helped me get settled always making sure I was comfortable with schedules and etc. What with this being a paid internship …show more content…
Once people started getting fired she had me helping out more covering shifts which let me get more hours than I would have. Because she wanted me to become an employee after my internship was done. This made me feel like I did an incredible job if she was wanting me to stay on. Other than that I like working in the interior the most. By being interior I was able to move around more than at the guardhouse. Working this type of job most of the employee stated that they gained weight due to sitting around all the time. I normally did two long rounds and either three to four short rounds just to move around and make time go by faster. Though technology we were only allowed to do less. I rather am productive and not miss anything than stare at the monitors the whole time. Dislikes are common with any internship. Starting with the basic like earlier. That being the shift hours, I work late shift but it hard adjusting from 1600-0000 to 0000-0800. Then there’s the …show more content…
Even though it 's different from the tasks required on a campus yet I feel that I currently do more as a security guard on a campus than for Allied Barton. I was even told that I was overqualified based on my past work experience. Which goes to show that it doesn’t take much for a person to become an employee who is expected to protect important objects and people. The career that I would like to get once I graduate is to work as a crime victim specialist. Then after I gain experience and more education maybe a behavior analyst. So as you can see there aren’t that many this that I can take from this internship that would relate to my career goals. But there are a few things that I might be able to take from my experiences this summer. Those being patience, having to deal with angry workers, and how to handle paperwork. The one I probably need to work on the most was patience which has to be made to sit around for long periods of time definitely requires some patience. Lastly, this is something that I could easily put done on my resume as another experience that helps show I am a responsible worker and dependable employee by interning for this

Prior to my internship with Hensel Phelps, I had almost zero experience working for a construction company. The summer prior to this, I shadowed a quality control personnel and safety coordinator from the construction company Aztec, Inc. in El Paso, Texas. The project was an interior renovation of an old army rocket facility that was to be transformed into a general space for office work in Ft. Bliss. The work being performed there was abatement, painting, and carpet installation.…

So far, the ultimate beneficial knowledge that this internship has brought me is the opportunity to improve my leadership ability, planning, and organizational skills. After all, as a teacher, your job is full of meticulously detailed lessons for students. The least beneficial was probably the learning part, I felt as if I was on my own to learn a large majority of the training. I’ve taught myself much of the information about the company, layout regulations, the register, and many aspects of the store. Luckily there are multiple binders with this information that is available to read.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…

My ideal internship experience would involve working in a role where I am surrounded by people who encourage each other in a supportive environment where everyone has a unique contribution to the team.
