I intend to join the Society of Women Engineers while in college. This club interests me the most because I know how arduous it can be to be a female in the engineering community. At my school, I have always been one of the few females in the drafting and technical drafting courses. There were others in my class who said I could not be an engineer because I was a girl: I retreated and became very quiet, fearing more harsh comments. I found the support I needed in SkillsUSA. My advisors assured me that my gender did not make me any less of an engineer. Overcoming these challenges bettered me as a leader and a student.
