My interview takes place in the kitchen of a home where Mrs. Weekes, a 76year old retiree has lived for the past 25 years. The kitchen is painted white, red and black accessories brighten the kitchen. The appliances are stainless steel with black accents. The smell from the oven and chai tea on the stove makes it a very inviting and cozy atmosphere. Mrs. Weeks invited me to sit at the island while she takes homemade coconut tarts from the oven. “My day starts with thanking god for allowing me to open my eyes to witness another day and receive his blessings. During the early mornings when my arthritis and weather permits, I enjoy sitting outside with a cup of tea and breathing in the fresh air. I love watching the birds and squirrels play. I love to clean, so on any given day, my day starts with housekeeping. Steaming floors, cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms and doing laundry. Most people think of housekeeping as a chore, I enjoy it. Some days when the weather allows, I like to garden. I try to make time during the day to call and check in on friends, sometimes visit with them. I talk with my kids about 3-4 times a day. My biological grandchildren except for 1 teenager, has moved away to other parts of the country, but we chat regularly. I enjoy reading and getting caught up on my favorite television shows. One of my passions in life is cooking. I think that I can give up most things, but not cooking. It is the best feeling in the world when I prepare a meal for the family or a neighbor. On occasion, I babysit for family friends so that the parents can have time for themselves. For the past several years I have taken on the task of home improvement projects, not in my home but in some properties, that my son has purchased. I enjoy painting and bringing old things back to life. To date I have done 3 homes, I take pride in the work that I do. My day usually …show more content…

As I mentioned in the previous assignment, I want to increase my baseline 500 steps each week so that by the end of the semester I am recording 10,000 steps which is in the active range. I will continue walking around the property at work and stepping in place whenever I possibly can. I will stick to walking to the mailbox which is two blocks from home as opposed to driving up to it on my way home. If I have days where I am tired I will just give myself another pep talk. I have a pretty good support system thus far so I will lean on them if pushing myself on my own does not cut it.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…
