My Reflection Of My Internship With Allied Barton

Improved Essays
As it comes to the end of my internship with Allied Barton it was a decent time. Though when thinking of my likes and dislike there are much more dislikes than likes. This I feel is mostly true for my fellow interns but it 's rather disappointing. Since this wasn’t the internship that I wanted they aren’t that many similarities to the activities performed as a security guard related to my career goals. That being said I wasn 't interning for the job I intended on going into I can’t say it wasn’t a learning experience for me. Looking at the likes they are mostly basic everyday job perks. I liked my boss Lisa she helped me get settled always making sure I was comfortable with schedules and etc. What with this being a paid internship …show more content…
Once people started getting fired she had me helping out more covering shifts which let me get more hours than I would have. Because she wanted me to become an employee after my internship was done. This made me feel like I did an incredible job if she was wanting me to stay on. Other than that I like working in the interior the most. By being interior I was able to move around more than at the guardhouse. Working this type of job most of the employee stated that they gained weight due to sitting around all the time. I normally did two long rounds and either three to four short rounds just to move around and make time go by faster. Though technology we were only allowed to do less. I rather am productive and not miss anything than stare at the monitors the whole time. Dislikes are common with any internship. Starting with the basic like earlier. That being the shift hours, I work late shift but it hard adjusting from 1600-0000 to 0000-0800. Then there’s the …show more content…
Even though it 's different from the tasks required on a campus yet I feel that I currently do more as a security guard on a campus than for Allied Barton. I was even told that I was overqualified based on my past work experience. Which goes to show that it doesn’t take much for a person to become an employee who is expected to protect important objects and people. The career that I would like to get once I graduate is to work as a crime victim specialist. Then after I gain experience and more education maybe a behavior analyst. So as you can see there aren’t that many this that I can take from this internship that would relate to my career goals. But there are a few things that I might be able to take from my experiences this summer. Those being patience, having to deal with angry workers, and how to handle paperwork. The one I probably need to work on the most was patience which has to be made to sit around for long periods of time definitely requires some patience. Lastly, this is something that I could easily put done on my resume as another experience that helps show I am a responsible worker and dependable employee by interning for this

After completing the campaign for the semester, I have learned that I am better at managing a team than I give myself credit for. At the beginning of the semester, I didn’t have much experience managing other people and was worried about how I would be able to handle it. All in all, I was able to keep the team on track, for the most part, throughout the whole campaign process. I was very happy with how much I was able to get out of people and how hard everyone worked on the campaign. If there is one thing that I could improve on, it would be to be tougher on people who are not doing there share.…

I originally took the RA position based on the scholarship. I did not want student loans and living off campus would mean that I would be working ridiculous hours at some job to pay rent I cannot afford. The job has not been that bad now that I reflect but it still was not great. The residents are not the hard part it was the work required by the Reslife department. There are several requirements, programs, papers, and etc.…

I enjoyed working for the company and believed in their core values; however, I was slowly distanced from my job by my direct management and the inability of the leadership team to see what areas I exceled in. Being around people who did not share the same ethical and moral standards as me took a toll on me. In addition, working in an area that was unrelated to my career and educational goals was something that pushed me even further…

That is exactly what I have tried to do in my working experience. When I am ever having a hard day at work, I think of the best outcome of my unconventional jobs: I get paid double. It is not that I get my salary raised, but I receive more benefits than just a check in my wallet. In both jobs I get the satisfaction of a job-well-done. Whether it be helping a six-year-old girl finally master her cartwheel, or finishing the cherry red civil war gown after working on it for a whole week, both are equally…

Minor prompted be to ask Ms. Minor not what she liked least about her job, but what did she consider the hardest part of her job? “The hardest part of my job hands down is dealing with conflict. “Being in any HR role often means that you cannot cloud the line between being "friends" and being in an upper level leadership position. I have had times where some of the employees and I have become friends outside of work. This worked well until a conflict came up at work where I could not be their friend.…

While the ideas and information being presented in the training have merit, the training was given to employees in a format where it is completed individually and can be skimmed over or not even read. I actually did read the papers and thought the ideas had merit, but I wish I could have had the opportunity to tell some of my supervisors some of my ideas about how to improve processes or heard some of their ideas about how we can eliminate waste and variance. I’m have a pretty good first-hand knowledge of how things work at my workplace, so my input might have value, but I don’t believe that my opinions would be valued if I gave them, because they haven’t been valued in the past by upper level management at this organization. Reviewing the training material as a group would at least ensure that everyone had some awareness and familiarity with the content. Because the training was given in the most convenient and least effective way, the perception is that the training was only an afterthought for the department that had to be completed because it was obligatory.…
