Stage 2: Feeling
Even though I have basic knowledge of sport management and I did my internship at National Stadium Bird’s Nest for six months before, I was still a bit nervous. Fortunately, after interviews with my supervisor as well as other colleagues, I let out a sign of relief since all of them are so nice and this organization is immersed in a relaxed atmosphere. Nevertheless, It was regrettable when Cheyanne pointed out there is no strategy for continuing professional development like CPD at Sport Birmingham. Nor is the relevant programme. I was disappointed at this unexpected news and became worried about my assignment.
In fact, by the end of my first day at office, I felt much better at that point when I realized that we are surrounded by a good learning environment. First of all, our organization is equipped with sound hardware and software facilities, which means a variety of opportunities could be provided for us to achieve knowledge. For example, there is no strategy of professional learning to guide us and we have no access to formal courses or training. More importantly, it is a challenge for me to adapt to a totally different culture. I always failed to get the point of the jokes told by my colleagues, which could make both of us feel embarrassed. So, in order to integrate into the community, I had to pretend to understand and laughed with others. Furthermore, when I ran into difficulties, my first reaction was to feign and then find out solutions by myself to avoid revealing my weaknesses to other colleagues (Rynne et al., 2010). This kind of problems made me depressed and took me extra time and energy to tackle. Luckily, I still have three months to change the situation and improve
