My Interest In Oberlin College

Improved Essays
My interest for Oberlin developed before I even knew Oberlin existed. My whole life I have always had a passion in the science field. I discovered my high diversion in science during my Freshman year, when I won my local science fair. Not only do I love to study science but I also have a high interest in art, especially in the field of photography and cinematography. My curiosity in science and art brings my interest in applying to my perfectly fit school: Oberlin College.
I am in love with the fact that Oberlin College is located in a small town. All my life I have lived in small towns and I would get overwhelmed if I were to move to a big city for college. I also love that Cleveland is in driving distance from Oberlin.

My interest in physics was initially ignited during my sophomore year. I signed up for AP Physics 1, taught by a teacher in his first year, right out of college. His main goal was to encourage students to apply physics to the world around them and identify the relevancy of the course material. I was immediately hooked and I bought book after book about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Big Bang, and quantum mechanics. I was eager to learn as much as I could; in doing so, I realized that working in a laboratory setting, conducting experiments and applying equations, is something that I am truly passionate about.…

My interest in the honors college derives from the environment that I have grown up in since my sixth grade year. Like many of those applying to the honors college, I was separated from many of my peers into a group of children who showed an advancement in intellectual ability at an early age. This allowed us to work together with suitable partners to help each other learn and develop new ways of thinking. The honors college will serve much of the same purpose and allow me to maximize my learning experience while at Purdue. I do, however, believe that this gives individuals like myself an unfair advantage over my peers.…

Up until high school, I have never experienced science as I did in a high school environment, specifically in DRS, where I fell in love with chemistry in 10th grade. This love for the science influenced me to take upon myself the challenge of AP Chemistry. So far I have further developed and honed my skills.
