Example Of A Personal Statement Analysis

Improved Essays
As a senior in high school I am applying for colleges, and have been asked to provide a personal statement essay. I have been asked to talk about my interests and social skills, as well as the activities I have participated in. I can say I have not had as many life experiences as some of my classmates, but I have been in a wealth of extracurricular clubs and organizations that have sharpened my skills in the community. I have also devoted a fair amount of my time to school and my class work, some of my classmates, teachers and administrators have praised me for my devotion to putting a full effort into all my class work. As for my Academic interests I have disliked classes, just like everyone else, but the difference is that, even though …show more content…
I started girl scouts as a daisy when I was in kindergarten, I was shy and quiet, but after a year I made friends and became just as outspoken and loud as the rest of my Troop 1074. This last year we had to disband due to most of our scouts moving away and not collecting enough members to stay active, and our troop leader having to visit her mother more often. Girl scouts was the place I learned I could be comfortable talking, and I also learned to stand up for myself, others and my ideas. I learned everyone had an opinion and that no one’s was wrong, and we all needed to coexist in harmony. I learned to be a peacemaker and make friends not enemies. I was also in 4-H, a club where you can do pretty much anything. I was involved in Archery, where yes, we learned more than to shoot at a target. I learned showmanship, respect, leadership, and responsibility. We also learned to be nice and friendly, because some people aren’t as skilled as you, doesn’t mean that they can’t get there, and maybe if you help them they can succeed like you. This year, 2015-16, I joined FCCLA, which I regrettably wish I had joined sooner. FCCLA is about giving back to our community and helping out as much as possible. I was told it mimics Key Club, with community service, but FCCLA is student driven. We learn to be independent and organize activities and events on our own. I learned the importance of giving back to our community, that I had no idea supported our school as much as it does. I think that if any of these clubs I hadn’t joined I wouldn’t be the person I am

On the first day of my 4th period Pre-AP Social Science class, my teacher announced that she would be nominating 2 students for a scholarship based on their academic performance and service to the community. For an 8th grader, this seemed to be the most exciting opportunity I had ever heard of. It would allow some separation from my ultracompetitive classmates at one of the top middle schools in California. Even though history was not my forte, I devised a regimen that I would follow. I studied everyday afterschool, spent hours upon hours on projects, and never turned in an assignment without checking it over 3 times.…

Also during, my freshman year, high school I was a part of the girl scouts, Troop 75. It was a great knowledge to be a Girl Scout leader because we got to go on different trips, help the community out, and be an example for the younger children to be a leader not a follower. I learned how to become a better person and live by the Girl Scout Rule, which is basically the golden rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated.…

Boy Scouts was initially something that I never truly expected to enter my life. The most exposure I had of it was cartoonish representations that I would see in the funnies section of the newspaper or spoofs of the organization in my daily cartoons. This all changed when my friend one day invited me over to one of the weekly meetings. I was a little scared at first, a group of people I didn’t know was frightening to my middle school self. But for some reason; I’m not sure now if it was the friendly scouts, or the exuberant leaders, I decided to join.…
