My Intended Audience Proposal

Decent Essays
Audience Analysis:
My intended audience are the members of the board of education and the superintendents of schools. The reason the board of education is my targeted audience is because they are responsible for helping students achieve success by employing the right superintendents, who will adapt and develop new policies, which will result in students receiving the best education possible. The superintendent is responsible for leading and managing school districts. By targeting my intended audience, I hope to deliver the importance of sleep in high school students and emphasize how the idea of pushing the start time for school to a later time will help improve students’ academic performance and their mental and physical state. In A Modest Proposal by Jonathon Swift he suggests the idea of selling babies and having them as a major dish. He says how this proposal would “lessen the number of papist” (Swift 7) and increase the value of marriage, because the man wouldn’t harm his wife if she were pregnant for fear of a miscarriage and not be able to sell the child. In this passage it is understood why Thomas C. Foster author of How to Read Literature like a Professor says, “not all eating that happens in literature is friendly” (Foster 15). In this “modest” proposal, Swift is suggesting how it is perfectly normal to eat humans. How is eating one another good for everyone?…

In other words, the list of the benefits includes changes in almost all areas that affect the mental and physical health of adolescents. In addition, Emily Richmond, in her article “Why School Should Start Later in the Morning”, argues, “Schools also saw the decrease in … substance abuse. Some even had a dramatic drop in teen car crashes” (1). In other words, even those areas that seemed not very connected to change in the sleep schedule had been affected by the change and in turn affected the lives of students.…

In every society there is the wealthy and the poverty-stricken. Although many may disagree, there is an unwritten obligation as human beings to care for one another and lend a helping hand to those in need. If those who have more than the less fortunate don’t give at some point and have compassion on those in need, then we are left with a selfish and cheap society. If we all work together as one, wealthy and impoverished, then this guarantees our survival as a human race and ultimately guarantees the formation of a united society. Often times we are too selfish to realize that we all got to where we are by way of assistance.…

“Teens need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep per day,” says the National Sleep Foundation’s website, which describes the facts and consequences of sleep deprivation for teens. We have all heard the phrase, yet to most of us this advice seems unrealistic and impossible due to students various extracurricular activities and responsibilities which cause late bedtimes to be a common occurrence for teenagers. Recent research shows that as an adolescent, our biological sleep patterns make it difficult for teenagers to fall asleep before 11 PM. This proves that getting to bed earlier is not a simple solution. Going through the day feeling tired and moody is not beneficial to students nor to schools, teachers, or staff.…

For many years, high school students have been complaining that school starts too early which results in their being denied sufficient sleep. While some people might argue that students claiming inadequate sleep could simply manage their time better, research conducted into the natural sleep patterns of adolescents supports the hypothesis that they naturally go to bed later and wake up much later. Studies that show adolescent's who start their days too early experience conflict with their natural Circadian rhythms. As a result, most high school students do not experience a state of being fully awake and at peak awareness until about 8:30AM. It follows that beginning classes prior 8:30 AM compromises maximum productivity as it cannot be convincingly argued that school should begin before students are fully awake and aware.…

In the following essay, I will compare and contrast the pros and cons of various solutions to this problem. Getting more sleep at night appears to be the most obvious solution in the eyes of society.…

Furthermore, while earlier start times may encourage adolescents to be responsible for managing their time to get ready and be on time for school, teens would create poor sleep habits as they develop anxiety and stress from being required to wake up early. Furthermore, even if they would have to face trying to manage their extracurricular activities, students would be able to sleep earlier and wake up the next morning to finish school responsibilities while gaining concentration from meeting the recommended hours of sleep. Without a doubt, if schools change their starting times later, one major leap is taken to ensure students’ and teachers’ sleep needs are met so that they are able to sleep and function during the school…
