My Indo-American Experience

Improved Essays
As a first generation Indo-American, I often speak quietly of my achievements, seeing my parents’ accomplishments as feats of humanity. However, I have a strong work ethic and have proven that I can handle responsibilities. I have repeatedly placed first in extracurricular University Interscholastic League math and science competitions at the district level, and plan to compete at the state level. I have also shown academic responsibility by making the Honor Roll multiple times. Furthermore, I participate in leadership programs such as Future Farmers of America, and contribute back to the community through the local Interact Club.
In addition, I have also learned to manage responsibilities on time. At a local grocery store, I learned to complete

Project 2 contains information developed from the Pearson Higher Education Self-Assessment Library. A series of assessments were completed. The most significant information I learned is contained in step 1. Part I gave insights into my personality, that I am an agreeable person with a Type A Personality, and that my job satisfaction is overall low, even though I have high emotional intelligence and considered a leader overall. Part II shows that I need improvement in listening, faith in others, and disciplining skills.…

Document 7.1 I think the cultural richness in the religion of its civilization, with all the Buddhist teaching and scholarship might’ve shocked or surprised him. Since China and India have a different and distinct language, the language in India seems to be the most strangest to a Chinese person. Chapters 3 through 5 had mentioned a lot about Buddhism’s life as a person through following it’s four noble truths, and it connects to the descriptions of Indian civilization by going to the schools (Nalanda University) to study. From reading this document, Buddhist practice is very important and in depth in India that they even have schools dedicated to practice Buddhism.…

In chapter 5: An American in India, Eboo Patel narrates his experience of visiting India, this time he is making the trip voluntarily. The purpose of the trip is to create a connection with his past and his people. He was going back to India seeking to integrate into his “lost heritage, his people and land” (78). Although, Eboo had a different approach to embrace his culture at first, he did not fully agree with some Indian cultural norms. The class structure and the significance difference between the servants and the upper middle class made him very uncomfortable.…

The plight of American Indians in the hands of the white regime has been characterized by suffering and confusion. The Ishi performance tells the story of Ishi, an Indian man who visited a small town in Northern California. The appearance of the Ishi inspired mixed feelings. In my second critical reading exercise I wrote more than my last one. I included three paragraphs and I started off my assignment with, “In Sherman Alexie’s short story, “Indian Education”, includes many concepts of the genre conventions, such as being alienated from his society and feeling left alone to solve his own problems. However, Alexie also modified some genre conventions such as conflict of generations”. This introduction is different from my last critical reading assignment because this time I included the title of the reading and had a clear thesis that maps what I will be discussing in my next paragraphs. The second and third body paragraph talked about a genre convention that was used/modified in the short story, and I ended that paragraph with what message that can be interpreted by using/modifying that genre convention.…

Sherman Alexie’s, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian” is the account of Arnold Spirit, also known as Junior. Junior is the novel’s narrator and while he is witty and seemingly proud of his heritage in the beginning of the story, it appears the point of the novel is to show us Junior’s transformation. He begins life on the reservation, attending school in Wellpinit, Washington. Eventually, he transfers to an all-white high school twenty-two miles from the reservation in Reardan, where he begins to change. A shallow reader may think the novel is only about Junior’s journey, but actually, Alexie has managed to show us the difference between Arnold Spirit and Junior as two separate people.…

Indian desires were simple and attainable for the most part. All they required from life were buffalo to feast upon, safety from neighboring tribes and a good harvest. These cravings were on a different spectrum to those of the Europeans. The foreign society desired gold, and glory, and where convinced that the Indians withheld them. The natives held no account to gold and were amiss to the concept of it.…

My goal is to work with the Dutch East India Company to explore more efficient trade routes to North America in an effort to make trade with the Native Americans. There are a few essential skills and abilities that are needed to be qualified for this task, and I believe that I possess them. To begin, at a very young age I was well educated about navigation, which has helped me in the past to make many voyages around the world. I think that it is crucial to understand how to properly navigate in order for this expedition to be successful.…

Work Base-Learning refers to any formal higher education learning that is based wholly or predominantly in a work setting. Volunteering myself to this group, I was hoping to become more helpful, learn to be more responsible, and prepare myself for real life work experience. I’ve learned so much over the past couple of weeks. Time with Oliver is always an hour well spent. During the hours, I spend time printing documents, filing paper work, writing down information Mr. Oliver needs, helping with FFA work, my favorite learning new techniques, and introducing myself to a whole other level of the country life.…
