My In-Class Reflection

For my portfolio, I compiled my best writing pieces from this class into one folder. I chose which works were the best not based on grade alone, but on how they represent my writing style and how it has evolved and progressed throughout the course of this semester. I chose one timed, 500 word, in-class essay, my best personal essay, my best out-of-class essay with MLA documentation, and my best paper with an annotated bibliography. In this short essay I will explain why each of these represent me as a writer and show growth in my writing experience. For my best timed, 500 word, in-class essay, I chose “Response to Inked Well.” This is my response to the short essay Inked Well by David Kirby. It shows my ability to read and summarize an essay, give my personal opinion of it, and identify flaws in the author’s method while providing a way that it could have been done better, all in less than 40 minutes. This was by far my best timed essay because, honestly, I didn’t try after this one since I knew only one of them would count toward my grade. For my best personal essay, I chose “Who Killed Benny Paret?” This is my summary and evaluation of the essay “Who killed Benny Paret?” by Norman Cousins. I gave a concise summary of why the essay was written, followed by Cousins’ opinion on the matter, and …show more content…
This is my most recent paper, and I believe it is my best piece this semester. While I’ve had trouble finishing my essays, or at least writing everything I set out to, in the past, in this essay I was able to finish it as completely as I set out to. I did a lot of research on the topic and used a large amount of sources to back up my thesis. This essay shows not only growth, but excellent overall writing ability on my

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

Hearing about the Demo 101 class I was very unsure about what to expect. My first thought was that it was for someone who might not have known any ASL (American Sign Language). Due to this thought, I became hesitant to the idea of actually going to this event. After explaining the whole week to one of my close friends she asked if I would go with her. Of course, I did and I could not be happier with the results.…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

This portfolio is a compilation of my experiences with the assignments and activities I have completed in English this semester. Being an undergraduate student has influenced my writing in two ways, critical thinking and academic writing style. Critical thinking is the ability to think independently. It includes providing an original perspective and making connections between ideas and your work. You should organise your ideas into logical points and explain, not just describe quotes and examples.…

Enclosed in this portfolio is a collection of my work that shows my growth and progression as a writer throughout the semester. The pieces displayed in this portfolio are the four major assignments we completed over the semester: the investigative field essay, annotated bibliography and literature review, rhetorical analysis, and the multimodal proposal and project. Each assignment encompasses a topic that relates back to my major as chemistry, or my projected occupation as a pharmacist. I hope to have my assignments demonstrate key skills I have gained within ENC 2135: compose texts that integrate the writer’s ideas with sources; analyzing and interpreting complex texts and representations of meaning in a variety of formats; and understanding how genre…

I reckon the day when I was in a real hurry to register the classes for the spring semester, which was the very first of mine here at Ole Miss. In the very final day of registration, I had my classes selected and I am very glad that I had been in one of the most perfect Writing Class which I had ever taken in my life. I had never thought writing would be this effective in expressing views and expressions to other people. I knew, though writing is always fun to those who have good grammar and language, but I had always been missing the fact that writing doesn’t always ask for language and grammar when you are deep into the main theme of what you are writing on. I was very much afraid with the starting papers as I had a fear in mind about the…

My portfolio shows how my progress through the semester has improved since the beginning of the course early this fall. This assignment is a reflection of how I have bettered my skills in the five standards of the WPA outcomes. When I first started college, I only knew simple writing concepts, but by the end of the fall my techniques have transformed from basic to critical. Writing a better thesis statement and breaking everything down are just some ways in which I improved. The point is to build off of current knowledge and incorporate the newly learned skills.…

Looking back over the course of the semester I am honestly slightly disappointed in my performance. If I am to just reflect on how well I did in my F.Y.E class, The Buddha and Bruce, I notice I didn’t do as well as I should of. As a first year student everyone tells me that it is normal to not do as well as you hoped, but I still feel like I could have done a lot better. One of my problems was letting my social issues affect my academics as well as attendance in classes. When I was having a bad day I wouldn’t do anything at all and would miss classes.…
