The first challenge that all New Americas face is the physical move. Leaving their family roots, leaving the familiar and the disorientation that is to come. Traveling to an unknown area where you have no idea what is going to happen or how you are going to live can be a difficult obstacle. They are overwhelmed with the unknown, knowing no one, and having no one to help guide them as they settle upon a new life. Bashar, an Iraqi, came to the United States in 2009 all alone at the age of 20. In a journal Bashar wrote, “Don’t have family support or any kind of support” (“My Immigration Story”).
