My Identity

"A village to raise a child" is a very popular proverb that describes that it takes a whole community, including family, friends, neighbors, or more to raise one child. The environment a child is raised in may appoint how they will do in the future, that is why it extremely vital where a child lives and more importantly, how they're raised. However, does that quote really impart my identity? Did really change me as a person?

The environment I grew up in refined me in a way that was special. I am a first generation student. My mom and dad Immigrated to America, they constantly tell me about their hardships and labour, day after day. My parents came to America for a better education, to be free of war and have the ability to do whatever job

Everyone had their own place in Duncanville, no one was judged in particular, but no one had it better than the band. The Duncanville Band. In the 6th grade, I joined Duncanville Band because I needed an extra art credit. Little did I know how it would affect me in the future. We started out testing and trying out instruments, that's when I came across a band director named Mr. Smith. He told me about the band and what the band had accomplished decades ago. That's what persuaded me to stay. He then chose my instrument for me. He selected the french horn. The next year I was put in beginner band, with people who had the same instrument. It was an interesting class. I felt sort of special for being in it. The next year, was middle school and again, I had thoughts about quitting the whole thing because I thought it was silly. Yet I stayed for some reason, a whole year of band again, and again and, boom! I was in High school. Marching band started. Marching band kick-started my leadership qualities mostly. Band took a great toll on my personality, I would be a whole different student if band wasn't there to keep me in shape. Becoming squad leader senior year was a big test for my leadership qualities, and it went extremely
