My identity wheel is unique to me. It also illustrates how oppression and privilege relate to my identity wheel. I am a white heterosexual Christian male. This statement already can demonstrate privilege and oppression. Since I am a Christian I can be oppressed by not Christian people. Some believe that being white gives me privilege over others. Personally I think that it really shouldn’t matter what your skin color, religion or economic class is. However, sadly because we live in a non perfect world where racism, sexism etc still exist my identity wheel does affect privilege and oppression. I felt almost attacked in a sense. I am what many people would consider the upper class. Which in some cases gives me privilege over others. That being said I do not feel like anyone is oppressed because of this. In fact in a lot of ways it does not only give me privilege but also my family and friends. I think the preiconcied notion that the affluent just have everything handed to them is not true. For example yes my dad pays for my college expenses. However, I was accepted into this school on my own merit not because my dad had money. I mean having money (bieng privalgaged monetarily) is nice becase it allows me to have more options than the average person would have, such as tutoring when I struggled with a class. It may be seen as unfair to some but it was never like I had any say about being wealthy. I was born into my family, I didn’t have a choice. Furthermore, my family was poor when they first started out. At one point my mom and dad told me that they could only afford to go out to a fast food restaurant once a year. Yes I am privileged but It is not like I am asking for others to be oppressed. I am able to help out people with things that I wouldn’t be able to do if I wasn’t privileged. Don't we all want to be privileged in
