Ideal Grade Level Essay

My ideal grade level for teaching would be first grade. In first grade, students are still learning the basics of reading and writing. I believe in first grade is a big transition from kindergarten because students begin to read fluently and comprehend what they are reading. I believe the big goals in first grade are to read simple stories and write about a topic that that means a lot to them. Teachers can do this by using different teaching strategies throughout the school year, with centers being one. There are many teaching strategies that a teacher can use to implement to emergent readers and writers. Three that I think are really interesting are the Daily 5, Café, and the way she made her learning centers engaging for all ages. I really enjoyed learning about these because this are ideas that I will definitely use in my classroom one day. I will use them because I believe they are very effective and I like how lessons are broken down into mini lessons, so the students do not lose interest. The centers she had us to do are wonderful ways to get the students moving around and engaged into learning. If we as adults enjoyed the learning centers, just imagine what children must think of them. I look forward to using these ideas in my classroom someday soon. If I had to choose three main ideas from this class, they would be how students learn to talk, read, and write. In my opinion, I feel like most of the ideas we have learned in this class so far can be used in any elementary grade level. Children develop and learn differently, and as teachers, it is our job to teach them the fundamentals of these three big ideas. Finding different teaching strategies that will keep our students engaged while learning these three may be a hard task, but taking what I have learned so far in this class will help better prepare myself for those
