My Homosexuality In Theatr Theatre Class

Improved Essays
My entire life I was brought up by a devoutly Christian family. I was raised with strict moral values that directly corresponded with the Bible. I also had a very protected childhood. My parents tried to watch over me everywhere I went. They were able to do this very efficiently when I was in elementary school because I went to a Christian private school. Unfortunately for them, that private school only went up to sixth grade, and after much begging and compromising, I was able to convince them to let me go to public school afterward. Public school was so much different from private school, but the few kids I met held very similar beliefs to me, so I was able to fit in almost seamlessly. I eventually made it to high school, and that’s when my counselor put me in theatre class. This is when I discovered that not everyone is like me, but eventually, I also learned that this is not necessarily a bad thing. …show more content…
In all my life I had never met anyone who was open about his or her absence of faith in God or who were so open about their homosexuality. In theatre class, I met several kids who were very open and up front about it, and to be honest, it made me very uncomfortable. One kid, who was trying to belittle all believers around him and convince them that there could not possibly be a God out there, said loudly, “You really believe there’s a Man up in the sky who allows every

atrocity in the world to happen but still has unconditional love for you?” At first, I shied away from having to interact with these people. I tried very hard to only spend time with the kids who shared similar beliefs to mine. However, it was only a matter of time before I was forced to interact with the “different”

Steven Furtick stated during his sermon ‘My Confidence Is Coming Back’ that “The devil cannot take your calling. The bible says that the gifts and the calling are without repentance. He does not change His mind when you lose your way. So since the devil can’t take your calling, he attacks your confidence. Because if he can get you to give him your confidence, he can keep you from functioning in your calling.…

Transitioning from a private school to public school was probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to adapt to because of how different and how surreal the environment was. The most difficult part of this transitioning was finding a group of friends, or at least a friend, where I can be with and feel comfortable with. I was put at a disadvantage because everyone already knew each other from their public…

Fitting in is not the easiest thing to do. I went to a predominantly African American middle school in a predominantly African American community. I assumed all schools curriculum were the same but I was wrong. My mom moved us to a community across town that had more Caucasians than African Americans and I had to then transfer schools. At my former school I was a top notch student academically and was sure to carry that reputation with me.…

One of my roommates in college was gay. He confided in me about his sexual preference, knowing I’d respect his confidence. Back then, gay people were openly ridiculed and rejected and attacked. I wish I could say this was no longer true, but obviously I can’t. We’ve come a long way, but what happened in Orlando and the reaction to it provide harsh reminders of how people hate those who are different from them in some way.…

During several occasions of a person’s life, mentors and role models stress the necessity of accepting each others’ differences, encouraging the celebration of individuality, and most of all, remembering the glorious Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. However, people still pursue and massacre their neighbors of diverse backgrounds. As the public slowly desensitizes itself to racial jests and injustices, accepting them as parts of daily life, prejudice and violence gradually target vulnerable minority groups. Simply, overlooked racist actions in public will slowly lead to massive massacres. Brought to the world’s attention after the events of the Holocaust, the horrors of racism show themselves in injustice, verbal…

“Hey that’s so gay” or “you’re a fag”, is something you hear at a high school almost every day. Growing up in the North Carolina, homosexuality was sort of frond upon. Hearing people make gay jokes and look down on them everyday sort of imprinted “being gay is bad” into your head. Geryon, a gay, red monster living with normal people, goes through the struggle of a typical homosexual, acceptance. He goes through the ups and downs and struggles with his family, friends and community.…

College My childhood was crazy and full of extreme changes; in a period of only three years, my life changed completely. These changes ranged widely starting when my childhood house burned down on my seventh birthday, to a series of subsequent moves , to my parents’ divorce, to moving over two thousands miles to Illinois with my mom and sister after almost a decade of living in New York, ending with my dad passing away when I was only eleven. (Clean up this sentence, seems a bit long). After those few years, I became an extreme creature of habit, afraid of change and the unknown that comes with making new, different decisions: regardless of how small the decisions may be.…

Homosexuality has always been a controversial topic in the United States, especially last year when the law changed for same-sex individuals are now able to get married. I attended a Catholic private school in middle school, in which we learned about God and the Bible. We were taught that people could be gay but that they could not act upon it, but it was best not to be gay because that not what God intended us to be. The idea of being gay was so abstract, I always wonder if a person was born that way or choose to be that way. I remember having my first experience of close friends coming out to me as a lesbian.…

    Homosexuality In Othello

In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Othello the Moor of Venice Shakespeare leaves the character of Iago’s sexuality to be questioned. Although Iago has a wife, he drops slight hints throughout the play that he has homosexual thoughts or feelings toward other characters, but he uses his position in the military and his fear to suppress these feelings. These “hints” are shown through his wildly questionable story about Michael Cassio, his word choice when describing Othello, and his discourse with Roderigo. This means an actor that plays Iago has to choose whether to portray Iago as homosexual, straight, or both.…

In Chapter One of Marriage and Family: The Quest for Intimacy, we are introduced to various concepts, facts, and misconceptions concerning the experiences one may have when raising a family or living their life with another human being. Personally, there was plenty of information to learn and discover in this chapter, but if I had to narrow it down to three things that I found most interesting, I believe I would say that I was most fascinated when I had read about loneliness, and the myth concerning having children for an increase in marital satisfaction. As a child, I was very shy in school and I did my best to stay out of everyone’s way. Granted, Praise the Lord that I had a wonderful family and church to lean on, because if I hadn’t,…

    Sexual Orientation

The controversial debate over the aetiology of sexual orientation often takes a dichotomous stance with one side supporting an innate, biological view, and the other as being acquired environmentally. Recently the focus has shifted towards an exploration into innate, biological origins such as genetics and endocrinology, as potential influences on homosexual development. Society tends to fall into the fallacy of thinking that behaviour is an either-or phenomenon, and that these factors are mutually exclusive. It should become apparent throughout this evaluation that this oversimplification of dividing development into distinct categories is too simplistic, and much more appropriate to view its development as an interaction between the two.…

When I knew I was gay, I never thought it would have the impact on my life that it has. In this day and age, especially for my generation, sexual, romantic, and gender freedom are ubiquitous and gaining recognition quickly. A lot of people know who they like from early on in life; they remember liking other kids and having boyfriends or girlfriends in elementary school.…
